Manager I, Engineering - Language Tools

Summary

Join Datadog's Language Tools team as a manager, leading a group of senior engineers in building and maintaining tools for backend engineers. You will manage 4-7 engineers, contribute to code and design documents, connect with stakeholders, make data-driven decisions, and engage with the open-source community. This role requires expertise in one or more languages (Go, Python, Java, Rust, TypeScript) or build systems (Bazel). As the first manager in Europe, you'll represent the team there. Requirements

• Be a well-rounded engineer. You must broadly understand the various types of software projects that are built, tested, and packaged with our tools

Responsibilities

• Manage 4 to 7 mostly senior engineers, helping them to achieve our objectives, and developing their careers
• Contribute to the team effort by writing and reviewing both design documents and code
• Connect with stakeholders at various levels in the Datadog engineering organization, to understand the needs of developers
• Make data-driven, risk-aware decisions to solve ambiguous problems, and confirm results. The changes we make impact the velocity of hundreds of engineers
• Engage with the open source community as needed. For example, influence and/or contribute to the Bazel roadmap, or report issues with Go release candidates
