Manager III, Data Engineering

Summary

Join onX as a Data Engineering Manager to lead and mentor a team of data engineers, driving the design, development, and optimization of data pipelines and architecture. Requirements

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Data Science, or a related field
• 10+ years of experience in data engineering, with at least 5 years in a leadership or managerial role
• Expertise in SQL, Python, and data pipeline orchestration tools (e.g., Airflow, Prefect, or similar)
• Hands-on experience with cloud platforms (AWS, GCP) and big data technologies (Spark, Iceberg, etc.)
• Strong knowledge of data modeling, warehousing, and database management systems (e.g., BigQuery)
• Experience with CI/CD, version control, and automation in data engineering workflows
• Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to work in a fast-paced, agile environment
• Strong communication and stakeholder management skills
• When applicable: Must be able to travel to a corporate office in Montana periodically

Responsibilities

• Lead and mentor a team of data engineers, fostering a culture of innovation, collaboration, and continuous learning
• Design, develop, and optimize scalable ETL/ELT pipelines to support analytics, reporting, and machine learning initiatives
• Architect and maintain robust data infrastructure, ensuring integrity, security, and compliance
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to define and implement data governance best practices
• Evaluate and integrate new technologies, tools, and frameworks to enhance our data capabilities
• Provide technical leadership and establish best practices for data engineering and development workflows
• Monitor system performance and troubleshoot issues to ensure data reliability and efficiency

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience working with real-time data processing and streaming technologies (Kafka, Kinesis, etc.)
• Familiarity with data governance and compliance frameworks (GDPR, CCPA, etc.)
• Prior experience in a startup or high-growth environment
