Summary
Join onX as a Data Engineering Manager to lead and mentor a team of data engineers, driving the design, development, and optimization of data pipelines and architecture. Collaborate with data scientists, analysts, and business leaders to ensure seamless data accessibility, security, and scalability. This role requires expertise in SQL, Python, data pipeline orchestration tools, cloud platforms, and big data technologies. Requirements
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Data Science, or a related field
- 10+ years of experience in data engineering, with at least 5 years in a leadership or managerial role
- Expertise in SQL, Python, and data pipeline orchestration tools (e.g., Airflow, Prefect, or similar)
- Hands-on experience with cloud platforms (AWS, GCP) and big data technologies (Spark, Iceberg, etc.)
- Strong knowledge of data modeling, warehousing, and database management systems (e.g., BigQuery)
- Experience with CI/CD, version control, and automation in data engineering workflows
- Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to work in a fast-paced, agile environment
- Strong communication and stakeholder management skills
- When applicable: Must be able to travel to a corporate office in Montana periodically
Responsibilities
- Lead and mentor a team of data engineers, fostering a culture of innovation, collaboration, and continuous learning
- Design, develop, and optimize scalable ETL/ELT pipelines to support analytics, reporting, and machine learning initiatives
- Architect and maintain robust data infrastructure, ensuring integrity, security, and compliance
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to define and implement data governance best practices
- Evaluate and integrate new technologies, tools, and frameworks to enhance our data capabilities
- Provide technical leadership and establish best practices for data engineering and development workflows
- Monitor system performance and troubleshoot issues to ensure data reliability and efficiency
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience working with real-time data processing and streaming technologies (Kafka, Kinesis, etc.)
- Familiarity with data governance and compliance frameworks (GDPR, CCPA, etc.)
- Prior experience in a startup or high-growth environment
