Media And Information Literacy Researcher

Summary

Join IREX as a Media and Information Literacy Researcher in Mongolia for a two-month consulting position. This fully remote role involves leading a comprehensive study mapping MIL practices in Mongolia. You will conduct quantitative and qualitative research, develop methodologies and questionnaires, identify key informants, collect and analyze data, and present findings. The ideal candidate possesses extensive experience in Mongolian media research, strong communication skills, and fluency in Mongolian and English. No travel is required.

Requirements

• Understanding and knowledge of Mongolia’s operating environment and information and media context
• Previous experience conducting analyses and studies of the media, journalism, communication, or civil society sectors in Mongolia
• Professional-level fluency in written and spoken Mongolian and English
• Familiarity with the use of secure communications protocols
• Professional level familiarity with Microsoft Word and Excel
• Skills and techniques to conduct relevant desk research
• VAT license (or VAT waiver)

Responsibilities

• Lead remote research of Mongolian Media and Information Literacy Practices, through quantitative and qualitative research; In coordination with IREX’s Media Engagement Advisor
• Develop and design mapping study methodologies, questionnaires, and tools
• Identify key informers
• Test and review questionnaires
• Conduct interviews with key informants
• Collect data and information from different sources
• Analyze and develop study results, and propose recommendations
• Participate in a co-creation workshop in order to present the main findings
• Perform other duties as assigned

Preferred Qualifications

• Extensive in-country contacts with all levels of media, information, and civil society professionals
• Ability to convene key informants from diverse contexts and hold interviews virtually, telephonically, or in person
• Relevant bachelor’s degree or higher in a related field
