Summary

Join Orca Bio, a late-stage biotechnology company, as a Medical Science Liaison (MSL) and play a pivotal role in advancing next-generation cell therapies for blood cancer. Reporting to the National Director, Field Medical Affairs, you will build relationships with key opinion leaders (KOLs), support Orca Bio's scientific and clinical strategy, and serve as a liaison between Orca Bio and healthcare providers. Responsibilities include developing and maintaining a territory management plan, engaging with the field team, providing medical support, and developing advanced knowledge of relevant studies and diseases. You will also engage in scientific exchange to ensure patient access to Orca Bio medicines, assess the medical landscape, and provide scientific expertise to internal and external stakeholders. This remote position requires up to 50% travel, including occasional evenings and weekends.

Requirements

  • Advanced clinical degree in a life-science or basic-science discipline (MD, DO, PharmD, NP, PA, DNP, M.Sc , or Ph.D.), ideally with real world, clinical heme transplant experience
  • 5+ years of experience in the pharmaceutical or biotechnology industry as a MSL
  • Relevant clinical experience (malignant hematology, heme transplant, and/or cellular therapy)
  • Strong understanding of clinical development, regulatory requirements, and commercial strategies; experience with HEOR data is a plus
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to engage and influence a wide range of stakeholders
  • Demonstrated ability to interpret and present complex scientific data to diverse audiences
  • Strong strategic thinking, problem-solving skills, and solution-oriented mindset
  • Demonstrated ability to collaborate with cross-functional colleagues to best serve the needs of internal and external stakeholders
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced, dynamic environment

Responsibilities

  • Identify, develop, and maintain strong, scientific, peer-to-peer relationships with academic and community research thought leaders, appropriate HCPs, and access stakeholders, within a given geography to answer scientific and product related questions
  • Prepare and maintain a territory management plan that will be shared with Medical Leadership and other internal stakeholders
  • Engage with Orca Pod field team members to provide appropriate medical support for all onboarding activities in relation to authorizing treatment centers, adverse event reporting, handling out of spec products, etc. as well as working with regional Market Access partners to provide medical education and support to local payers in alignment with Market Access tactical plan and individual patient needs
  • Develop and maintain an advanced level of knowledge about pertinent studies, compounds, and diseases that would facilitate collegiate and scientific discussions with thought leaders
  • Engage in meaningful and compliant scientific exchange that will ensure patients have access to Orca Bio medicines, to ensure their safe and appropriate use through peer-to-peer discussions aligned with medical strategies and needs expressed by external stakeholders, and to facilitate research
  • Actively assess the medical landscape by meeting with TL/HCPs to understand their viewpoint on research and science being conducted by Orca Bio; gather and communicate meaningful scientific insights with Orca Bio’s Leadership Team and other internal stakeholders
  • Provide scientific and clinical expertise to support internal and external stakeholders, through participation in advisory board meetings, clinical investigator meetings, roundtable discussions, educational meetings, interactions with professional organizations/societies, advocacy groups, GPOs, and large networked practices as needed
  • Support clinical trial activities to enhance patient recruitment, enrollment and/or discussions around the safe and effective use of Orca Bio investigational products, leveraging clinical trial experience and knowledge of Good Clinical Practice (GCP) to ensure adherence to ethical and regulatory standards
  • Act as the primary liaison to investigators interested in developing, submitting and performing Investigator-Sponsored Trials (IST). Identify the trials that fit within Orca Bio’s IST, presenting select proposals to review committees, communicating committee decisions to investigators, and maintaining effective communication with investigators throughout the duration of the ISS
  • Collect, analyze, and share relevant scientific information presented at congresses and during scientific exchange. When assigned, coordinate the efforts of other MSLs to provide coverage for a specific congress
  • Provide medical and scientific support of the strategy of health outcomes, real-world evidence, and payer/provider engagements
  • Participate in or lead advisory board meetings, clinical investigator meetings, and educational forums, organizing and chairing roundtable and educational meetings as needed
  • Initiate and autonomously execute projects that align with company strategy and require cross-functional collaboration
  • Mentor MSLs and other colleagues within the department as needed
  • Provide education and training to commercial marketing and sales teams on therapies and disease states
  • Other duties as assigned

Preferred Qualifications

  • Product launch experience
  • Experience working in a small biotech company or start-up environment
  • Demonstrated success in field medical launch planning and execution
