Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Packaging Science, Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or related field
  • 7+ years of relevant experience in the CPG industry
  • Knowledge of packaging materials and processes
  • Experience working with contract manufacturers
  • Familiarity with packaging testing standards (ISTA, ASTM) and regulatory requirements (FDA, CFR, etc.)
  • Strong problem-solving, project management, and communication skills
  • Proficiency with CAD software, packaging design tools, and Microsoft Office Suite
  • Ability to work independently in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment

Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, and qualify packaging components and systems for new product launches, line extensions, and packaging renovations
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams including Product Development, Manufacturing, Quality, Procurement, and Marketing to ensure packaging meets functional, aesthetic, and performance criteria
  • Conduct packaging trials, line validations, and performance testing (e.g., ISTA, shelf life, transit testing)
  • Identify and implement cost savings and sustainability improvements in packaging materials and designs
  • Interface with suppliers, co-manufacturers, and 3PLs to source and qualify materials and ensure packaging compatibility with manufacturing equipment
  • Create and maintain technical documentation including packaging specifications, bill of materials (BOMs), and test reports
  • Troubleshoot packaging issues on production lines or in the field and implement corrective actions
  • Ensure packaging complies with regulatory, safety, and environmental standards
  • Support packaging artwork development in coordination with Marketing and Regulatory teams
