Summary
Join Scout Motors and become the State Government Affairs Policy Manager, reporting to the Director, State Government Affairs. You will play a critical role in developing, implementing, and managing government affairs and public policy initiatives. Support the implementation of Scout Motors' state government affairs strategy, monitor and report on relevant legislation, maintain a legislative tracking database, and manage policy-related memberships. Build relationships with government policymakers, represent Scout Motors in industry groups, and collaborate with internal teams to foster grassroots support. This role may be based remotely in the US (Northeast and Midwest preferred, excluding NYC), with occasional travel for in-person meetings and events. You will help shape the future of transportation within a fast-paced, high-growth environment.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s Degree required
- Excellent writing and research skills, especially in drafting policy memos, legislative analysis, and stakeholder backgrounders
- Ability to build strong relationships and persuasively communicate messages at all levels of government
- Ability to help develop and advocate for novel public policy positions and initiatives
- Strong knowledge of state and local legislative processes and political contexts of those processes, in particular in the Northeast or Midwestern U.S
- Experience and desire to play a key role in a growing public policy team that will provide strategic and business advice to senior leaders of the company
- Strong communication, interpersonal, time-management, and organizational skills
- Keen attention to detail
- Ability to work well across departments and strengthen company culture through effective collaboration
Responsibilities
- Support the implementation of Scout Motors state government affairs strategy by preparing local and state-specific political and policy overview documents
- Monitor, track, and report on proposed legislation and regulatory matters relevant to Scout Motors' business operations
- Maintain and update a comprehensive legislative tracking database by state
- Assist in managing Scout’s portfolio of policy-related memberships, sponsorships, and associations, while identifying political opportunities and risks across Scout’s geographic footprint and advising on mitigation or engagement strategies
- Help to build the reputation and presence of Scout Motors and its products at all levels of government
- Build strong relationships with key local government policymakers and regulators, including elected officials, regulators, and appointed staff within the respective state executive and legislative branches, to advance matters of importance to Scout Motors
- Represent Scout Motors through participation and activity in industry and advocacy groups, stakeholder discussions and legislative hearings
- Collaborate with other Scout Motors teams and stakeholders to foster grassroots support, communicate the Scout story, and ensure policy priorities align for the Scout brand and its products
Preferred Qualifications
8 years of experience in governmental affairs, advocacy and public policy, state lobbying, or automotive industry preferred
