Principal Java Systems Engineer

Summary

We are seeking a highly experienced Principal Java Systems Engineer with a strong background in information retrieval, processing, and ranking, and expertise in GCP. This remote role involves developing scalable Java code, collaborating with team members, writing design documents, and improving information extraction using machine learning techniques. The ideal candidate should have 15+ years of industry experience or a Master's degree with 10+ years of experience.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in computer science or related field of study with 15+ years of relevant industry experience / Master’s degree in Computer Science with 10+ years of relevant industry experience
• In-depth knowledge of algorithms, data structures, and systems
• Familiarity with data mining, text processing and classification algorithms
• Experience in algorithm design and machine learning
• Several years of experience developing enterprise applications in core Java
• Experience in building distributed, low-cost, internet-scale streaming systems in Java, ideally on Linux
• E2E software development lifecycle experience, including building and maintaining production grade software
• Excellent communication, interpersonal, analytical, and problem-solving skills
• Worked effectively in a remote setting, maintaining strong written and verbal communication skills
• Hands-on experience in Google Cloud Platform

Responsibilities

• Develop scalable and innovative robust Java code for information retrieval, processing, and ranking at massive scale
• Build, enhance, optimize, and deploy tools, workflows, systems to process textual data for extraction of relevant information
• Improve information extraction using machine learning and natural language processing techniques
• Collaborate with team members and stakeholders, ensuring clear understanding of technical requirements and project goals
• Write detailed design documents, develop comprehensive automated tests, and coordinate automated deployments

Preferred Qualifications

• 5+ years of experience in customer-facing software/technology or consulting
• Understanding of statistical methods and exploratory data analysis
• Hands-on experience with Apache Hadoop
