Summary

Join Airbnb's Commercial Strategy & Planning Team as a Principal, contributing to strategic planning and partnering with various business units. You will build business cases, synthesize insights shaping supply strategy decisions, and identify new growth opportunities. Responsibilities include serving as an internal consultant, advising on Airbnb performance and industry dynamics, and ensuring effective cross-functional collaboration. The ideal candidate possesses strong analytical and financial modeling skills, excellent communication abilities, and experience in scaling marketplace businesses. This role offers high visibility with senior management and is US-Remote Eligible. The compensation includes a competitive salary range of $164,000-$202,500 USD, plus potential bonus, equity, benefits, and Employee Travel Credits.

Requirements

  • Minimum 8+ years of demonstrated relevant experience
  • Bachelor’s degree in finance, economics, mathematics, accounting, engineering, statistics or other relevant field that demonstrates quantitative orientation
  • Strong knowledge of SQL or some other querying language and using those tools to help synthesize complex information is a must
  • You must be comfortable manipulating large datasets, creating new analytical frameworks, and extracting actionable insights from that data
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to put together clear, compelling narratives that are appropriate for consumption by senior executives including the CEO, CFO, and other senior leaders

  • Superb financial modeling skills and extensive experience conducting quantitative and qualitative financial analysis

  • You seek out and have a track record for driving change and impact in a fluid, unstructured working environment

Responsibilities

  • Identify new growth opportunities that the company could pursue to increase company revenue and profitability
  • Evaluate proposed initiatives from across the company and determine their feasibility and potential
  • Perform rapid and accurate opportunity sizing with an eye towards sustainable growth and long term differentiation
  • Serve as an internal consultant, partnering with teams and executives in answering questions around Airbnb performance, competitors, and industry dynamics
  • Advise business leaders and decision makers on risks, opportunities, and trade-offs so they have the full picture
  • Identify and understand the key metrics that explain business performance
  • Lead conversations around OKRs and targets, building buy-in and alignment across teams
  • Ensure teams are equipped with the correct reporting systems and tools to track and understand performance
  • Lead internal processes to ensure effective cross functional collaboration
  • Develop insightful recommendations based on hands-on analytics, financial modeling, and strategic analyses
  • Help bring together insights and data from across the company into a single, synthesized view that provides the company with clear, compelling recommendations that drive impact
  • Support development of business strategy and drive outcomes across our Host communities
  • Develop a deep understanding of what drives growth and efficiency for our business, and partner with the leadership team to translate insights into action
  • Identify step-change opportunities by partnering with key stakeholders to identify areas of outsized impact through quantitative analysis, industry benchmarks, and competitive research
  • Create business cases for new initiatives with an investor mindset, and help leadership prioritize resourcing
  • Partner with the business in driving operational rigor and performance management, including development and ongoing analysis of KPIs, dashboards, creating goals/OKRs, and holding the business accountable to those goals

Preferred Qualifications

  • MBA or advanced degree a plus
  • Experience in helping scale marketplace businesses from zero to one is a plus
