Summary

Join Wellmark as a Quality Engineer and contribute to holistic Quality Engineering efforts for multiple projects and releases. You will create and execute test plans, design and develop test cases and scripts, and utilize automation and performance testing. Responsibilities include mentoring team members, ensuring adherence to processes, and collaborating with project stakeholders. The role requires a Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience, along with 3+ years of experience in test planning, case development, and automation or performance testing. Preferred qualifications include coding experience, knowledge of various IT platforms, and relevant certifications. This remote-eligible position offers flexibility in work location.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science or related field or direct and applicable work experience
  • Minimum 3 years’ experience: Creating test plans include test strategies, timelines, a scientific approach to estimates, demand, capacity, utilization plans and test environment planning
  • Developing and executing test cases utilizing industry standard testing methodologies or processes to develop test cases, ensure test coverage of requirements, execute test cases, and log defects
  • Automation or performance testing as a primary responsibility (e.g. Empirix Hammer, Selenium, DVO, Load Runner, etc)
  • Experience with multiple project methodologies (Waterfall, AGILE, RUP)
  • Experience with testing tools (e.g. HP UFT, HP Performance Center, HP QTP, JAWS, Excel Macros, Test Data Generator)
  • Using a test management and defect management tool
  • Strong communication skills, including issue resolution and conflict management
  • Strong time management and organizational skills
  • Ability to think strategically, and to mold testing to meet business requirements
  • Highly analytical, detail oriented and strong problem solving skills
  • Ability and interest in mentoring/coaching others
  • Demonstrated high attention to detail

Responsibilities

  • Create test plans that include test strategies, timelines, a scientific approach to estimates, demand, capacity, utilization plans and test environment planning
  • Develop and execute test cases utilizing industry standard testing methodologies or processes to develop test cases, ensure test coverage of requirements, execute test cases, and log defects
  • Create / understand / execute automation and performance testing options available to optimize the quality engineering effort
  • Ensure adherence to processes and methodologies within projects and provide guidance to team members to ensure delivery commitments are met
  • Responsible for defining test plans in support of small-mid scale projects and/or software releases. Including establishing a staffing plan, cost estimates, and key delivery dates
  • Partner with project teams to develop and gain consensus regarding quality engineering support, and ensure standard processes meet project requirements; including directing the defect management process and implementing test status reporting processes. Will represent the Quality Engineering team to resolve issues and manage overall project schedules. Work closely with project stakeholders and other appropriate internal stakeholders to ensure that quality is effectively executed throughout the project
  • Mentor and coach assigned project Quality Engineer I resources in the estimating, planning, designing and execution of testing for IT projects or initiatives. Review testing plans and other documentation and provide input as appropriate
  • Proactively monitor calendar of projects, review estimates and timelines to coordinate any contentions. Work closely with project stakeholders to ensure software quality stays on track for assigned projects and initiatives and report on status, including reporting on issues that may impact timelines or a successful delivery
  • Work with the project team in the review of documented requirements to ensure testability, maintainability, accuracy and consistency. Document or lead the documentation of test coverage and traceability to requirements. Review quality of test scripts against defined standards
  • Collaborate within the department to provide input, options and feedback for test environment management
  • Responsible to create / execute the automation / performance strategy in alignment to the overall test strategy and execution of the strategy
  • Look for opportunities to incorporate test automation for assigned projects or releases; including tooling / solution accelerators to improve effectiveness and efficiency, managing and driving to completion the full body of work / scope.  Look to test code components in non – conventional approaches, exploring shift–left strategy
  • Support and adhere to Wellmark software development lifecycle (SDLC), operational procedures and development and security standards by following required process
  • Support Quality Engineering Services in various transformational efforts aligned to the department/Technology strategy
  • Other duties as assigned

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree
  • 3+ years’ experience in automation or performance testing as a primary responsibility
  • Previous experience coding/developing (VB, .NET, C#) in a Quality Assurance role
  • Knowledge of various Information Technology platforms (Client/Server, Data Warehouse, Internet/Intranet, Electronic Commerce, Mainframe) and how each fits within and/or complements the enterprise architecture
  • Knowledge of Application Lifecycle Management (ALM)
  • Data warehouse testing experience including writing SQL queries
  • Knowledge of Self funded billing , Facets
  • Certifications such as: Certified Software Quality Analyst (CSQA), Certified Software Tester (CSTE), Certified Software Quality Engineer (CSQE), or other industry standard testing accreditation
