Requirements

  • 10+ years of software engineering experience, with at least 3 years in an Engineering Manager role or equivalent in an agile setting
  • Domain experience in defining the architecture of core payments platforms; examples include PSP integrations, Core API and SDK, back-office, and cashier experience (e.g. deposits, withdrawals, top-ups, etc.)
  • Proven capability to work with remote, augmented, global teams
  • Self-driven, proactive, and tech-savvy
  • Experience with modern front-end web development; experience in full-stack development with various languages
  • Comprehensive knowledge of testing methodologies (e.g., TDD, BDD, mocking)
  • Experience using automation tools to build robust, automated build/release/deploy processes (e.g. Github Actions)
  • Solid grasp of software design patterns (e.g., SOLID, Strategy/Observer/Facade) and both object-oriented and functional programming
  • Understanding of containers and container orchestration (docker, ECS, EKS, docker-compose)
  • Outstanding communication skills (written and verbal), able to influence various levels of stakeholders
  • Commitment to continuous learning and staying updated with software engineering trends
  • Deep understanding of software development best practices, including object-oriented and functional programming, design patterns, etc
  • Experience in designing team and service interfaces
  • Proven capability to work with remote, global teams
  • Self-driven, proactive, and tech-savvy

Responsibilities

  • Establishing a target state architecture for the Payments platform with the support of the Principal Architect and Head of Engineering EMEA
  • Leading and mentoring 3+ outsourcing teams in a remote setting with two remote engineering team leads
  • Establishing a robust and predictable software delivery process
  • Being a champion of and leading Continuous Delivery practices within the team
  • Working incrementally towards delivery of the platform working closely with Product using customer data and insights to drive prioritisation
  • Establishing strong quality and automation practices and processes
  • Hands-on design and implementation of software patterns and architecture
  • Synchronising with the Heads of Engineering and Principal Architect on developing best in class software solutions
  • Working closely with our Platform teams to establish ways-of-working that enable and drive our business objectives
  • Setting clear expectations for team members; soliciting, synthesising, and delivering feedback
  • Building, supporting, and developing the Payments platform engineering team
  • Collaborating closely with product owners, delivery leads, and business analysts
  • Contributing to the improvement of software development lifecycle processes

The Engineering Manager - Payments will lead the engineering team and their practices in the delivery of our next-generation Payments platform. They will design the solution and be a champion for the incremental delivery of the work, mentoring and developing the team along the way.

They will manage their team independently, communicating context, timeline, scope to their team and other stakeholders, to deliver initiatives on time.

Additionally, as an Engineering Manager, they will play a critical role in shaping and positively influencing the Engineering function at Pepperstone driving Engineering best practices.

As our Engineering Manager - Payments, your key responsibilities include, but not limited to:
