Responsibilities

  • Providing legal advice to clients on the terms and implications of canceling a contract
  • Drafting cancellation notices, termination letters, and settlement agreements
  • Negotiating with the other party involved to reach a mutually agreeable termination or settlement
  • Representing clients in legal disputes related to contract cancellation
  • Assisting clients in alternative dispute resolution processes such as mediation or arbitration
  • Ensuring that the termination process adheres to legal requirements and minimizing the risk of legal repercussions
  • Keeping clients informed about the progress of their case, explaining legal options, and providing updates on any developments
  • Conducting research on relevant laws, regulations, and case precedents that may affect the cancellation process or the client’s case
  • Developing strategies for handling complex cancellation scenarios, including those involving multiple parties or significant financial stakes
  • Maintaining detailed records of all communications, documents, and actions taken during the cancellation process

Job description

The Matian Firm, APC, is expanding its legal team, and is actively seeking a skilled and experienced individual to fill the position of Remote Cancellations Legal Assistant. Candidates must have excellent client-service attitude and case management skills. At least 2 years of immigration law experience and knowledge in contract cancellations and disputes in various activities related to the legal aspects of terminating contracts and procedural requirements of non-immigrant and immigrant visas. In this role, the paralegal will participate in all aspects of our immigration law practice, including assisting in the management of client relationships, case preparation, review, and analysis.

Responsibilities:

  • Consultation and Advice: Providing legal advice to clients on the terms and implications of canceling a contract. This includes evaluating whether cancellation is legally permissible and advising on potential risks and consequences.
  • Drafting and Reviewing Documents: Drafting cancellation notices, termination letters, and settlement agreements. Reviewing existing contracts to identify any clauses related to termination and ensuring compliance with these terms.
  • Negotiation: Negotiating with the other party involved to reach a mutually agreeable termination or settlement. This often involves discussions to resolve disputes or obtain favorable terms for the client.
  • Litigation and Dispute Resolution: Representing clients in legal disputes related to contract cancellation. This may involve filing lawsuits, responding to legal actions, and appearing in court or arbitration.
  • Mediation and Arbitration: Assisting clients in alternative dispute resolution processes such as mediation or arbitration, where they help negotiate settlements outside of the courtroom.
  • Compliance and Risk Management: Ensuring that the termination process adheres to legal requirements and minimizing the risk of legal repercussions. This includes advising on compliance with contract terms and relevant laws.
  • Client Communication: Keeping clients informed about the progress of their case, explaining legal options, and providing updates on any developments.
