Requirements

  • Minimum of 5+ years of multi-state payroll experience, preferably in a similar role
  • Experience leading a team is preferred
  • Advanced proficiency in payroll software (e.g., ADP, Trinet), Excel, Google products, and HRIS systems
  • Comprehensive understanding of US federal and state payroll regulations, including FLSA, tax laws, and wage and hour laws
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with attention to detail while managing data at a high volume with a high level of accuracy
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to explain payroll policies and resolve employee issues
  • Ability to maintain a high level of confidentiality regarding payroll and employee data

Responsibilities

  • Supervise and mentor the payroll team, providing guidance, support, and training to ensure accuracy and efficiency in payroll processing
  • Manage and actively support the preparation, documentation, and processing of payroll, ensuring accuracy, compliance, and adherence to deadlines
  • Ensure payroll processes are compliant with federal, state, and local regulations, including labor laws, tax requirements, and wage-and-hour regulations
  • Conduct regular payroll audits to ensure accuracy in calculations, tax withholdings, deductions, and benefits contributions
  • Reconcile payroll accounts and ensure proper accounting of payroll transactions
  • Prepare and analyze payroll reports, conduct audits to identify discrepancies or issues, and reconcile payroll accounts
  • Work closely within the team and Accounting to coordinate employee information and reporting, including headcount analysis, labor cost trends, and other key performance metrics
  • Act as the primary escalation point for complex payroll issues, investigating and resolving discrepancies, and addressing concerns from employees and other departments
  • Analyze current payroll processes and systems, recommend improvements, and implement best practices to enhance operational efficiency and reduce errors
