Responsibilities

  • Be responsible for recording of all enterprise-wide payroll, benefits, bonuses and other employee incentive pay and compensation expenses
  • Lead the consistent recording and framework of enterprise-wide recording of compensation accounting throughout the organization through consistent and repeatable processes
  • Be responsible for recording of enterprise-wide biweekly payroll related accounting entries
  • Ensure timely and accurate financial reporting of payroll transactions including staff/employee salaries, benefits, garnishments, taxes, and other deductions
  • Perform wide variety of record keeping and payroll processing activities, including, but not limited to, computing wages and overtime payments, calculating and recording payroll deductions, processing manual pay, wage garnishments, and processing new hires, leaves of absences, and terminations
  • Ensure consistency and accuracy in payroll postings to general ledger accounts and related cost center reporting
  • Work closely with Human Resources (HR) team to assure accuracy of employee personal, payroll, and benefits reporting
  • Perform all employee benefit accounting and intercompany cross-billing
  • Record monthly and quarterly bonus accruals for the enterprise
  • Perform balance sheet reconciliations for all payroll, benefits, and compensation related accounts, including timely resolution of reconciling items
  • Research, gather and provide information regarding internal and external payroll related questions, problems and audit issues
  • Support external audit requests and inquires related to payroll, benefits, and compensation accounting
  • Facilitate interim audits by providing records and documentation to internal/external auditors
  • Support Finance with the implementation of BI Dashboard reporting tools, as needed
  • Provide ad hoc monthly, quarterly, and annual reporting, as required

TerrAscend is looking for an Accountant, Compensation, to support our growing organization as an enterprise-wide owner for recording and analyzing labor costs of the organization. The ideal candidate will play a critical role in supporting TerrAscend’s growth. Working directly for the Corporate Controller and working closely with Human Resources and regional finance teams across the organization, the Compensation Accountant will support unified reporting, analytics through data and insightful analysis for decision making.  The role will be a key partner to the enterprise.

We are looking for a proactive contributor who will help standardize the payroll and benefits  accounting function for the organization as we poise for growth. In this role, you will be responsible for building and unifying our burdened labor P&L costs through consistent recording and reporting. Supporting the entire organization, you will improve the overall fiscal performance by providing key indicators to management, for critical accounting decision making. The role will work closely with the Corporate FP&A function, as well as Senior Leadership team, involving both the Business Units and TerrAscend Corporate.

To be blunt, this person will:

  • Be responsible for the month end accrual of payroll expenses for each operating business unit.
  • Ensure timely and accurate financial reporting of payroll transactions including staff/employee salaries, benefits, garnishments, taxes, and other deductions.
  • Perform wide variety of record keeping and payroll processing activities, including, but not limited to, computing wages and overtime payments, calculating and recording payroll deductions, processing manual pay, wage garnishments, and processing new hires, leaves of absences, and terminations.

  • Bachelor’s degree, or equivalents, in Accounting, Finance or related discipline preferred.
  • 2+ years of payroll and benefits accounting experience, including multi-entity organizations.
  • Knowledge of full cycle payroll and benefits organizational processes, accounting experience with both self and fully funded employee benefits programs is preferred.
  • Able to build and sustain strong relationships at multiple levels internally and with partners.
  • Ability to provide analytical analysis and insightful recommendations, as requested.
  • Knowledge of end-to-end financial reporting activities.
  • Demonstrate ability to work in a manner conducive to our company’s core values.
  • Highly proficient with Microsoft Office including, Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and work with discretion in financially sensitive area.

$70,000 - $80,000 a year
