Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college/university in Electrical Engineering or closely related electrical/science/engineer field
  • Five or more years of previous experience with an emphasis on control system design
  • Knowledge of PLC controls and SCADA, DCS configuration
  • Strong working knowledge of MS Office Suite applications (Word, Excel, Outlook, Project, Power Point, etc.)
  • Strong interpersonal skills and effective verbal and written communication skills; ability to write specifications and reports and lead and/or participate in discussions during client consultations and project team meetings
  • Ability to travel to client project site, as needed

  • Conduct conduit/cable schedules, instrumentation schedules, instrument schedules, P&IDs loop sheets, elementary drawings, I/O schedules, and front end and technical specifications
  • Assist in developing operator interfaces and platform logic
  • Prepare construction estimates

  • Perform system start-up and commissioning services

Job description

Our employee-owned and multi-disciplined team of engineering and design professionals is looking for an Instrumentation & Controls Engineer / SCADA Automation Engineer with an interest in industrial, rail and water/wastewater process and facilities controls design.

As a member of our team, you will prepare instrumentation and control system plans, conduit/cable schedules, instrumentation schedules, instrument schedules, P&IDs loop sheets, elementary drawings, I/O schedules, and front end and technical specifications. You will also assist in developing operator interfaces and platform logic, preparing construction estimates, conducting construction administration tasks, and performing system start-up and commissioning services.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college/university in Electrical Engineering or closely related electrical/science/engineer field.
  • Five or more years of previous experience with an emphasis on control system design.
  • Knowledge of PLC controls and SCADA, DCS configuration
  • Strong working knowledge of MS Office Suite applications (Word, Excel, Outlook, Project, Power Point, etc.).
  • Strong interpersonal skills and effective verbal and written communication skills; ability to write specifications and reports and lead and/or participate in discussions during client consultations and project team meetings.
  • Ability to travel to client project site, as needed, to gather information before engineering begins, for plant reviews, contractor pre-bid job walks, construction kick-off meetings, construction observation, system checkout and start-up, and project closeout.

Advantageous Qualifications

  • Ability to lead team members in design.
  • Advanced knowledge of PLC controls and SCADA, as well as DCS configuration experience.
  • Previous experience with site, facility, industrial and water/wastewater process system design.
  • Professional PE registration in state of Minnesota or ability to obtain such is highly preferred.
  • Experience with process automation systems is highly preferred.
  • Previous experience configuring VFDs, pressure, flow, temperature, and/or analytical instrumentation, where appropriate.
  • Previous experience with the creation of process flow diagrams, piping and instrument diagrams, and equipment general arrangement drawings, where appropriate.
  • Strong working knowledge of AutoCAD.
