Summary
Join ProPublica's Local Reporting Network and contribute to vital investigative journalism! We are seeking five newsrooms across the U.S. for a one-year investigative project starting October 1, 2025. ProPublica will cover the annual salary (up to $75,000 plus benefits) for one full-time reporter per newsroom. Successful candidates will demonstrate a strong investigative reporting background and propose a compelling project. Selected reporters will work from their home newsrooms, receiving support and guidance from ProPublica. The completed work will be published or broadcast by both the local newsroom and ProPublica. The application deadline is July 21, 2025.
Requirements
- Have a proven track record of investigative reporting and impact
- Provide a memo about the project you’re proposing for the duration of the partnership
- The applicant’s name should be the reporter’s
- Applications should be submitted by the reporter in collaboration with newsroom leaders
- Strong applications will express why the project needs to be told in your community
- Strong applications will explain how the project would benefit from this collaboration, potentially including data, research and engagement reporting resources we can provide
- Strong applications will discuss how the project may resonate with both local and national audiences
Responsibilities
- Work from and report to your home newsroom
- Receive extensive support and guidance for your work from ProPublica, including collaboration with a senior editor and access to the nonprofit newsroom’s expertise with data, research, engagement, video and design
