Summary

Democracy Prep Public Schools is seeking a Senior Accountant for a full-time position in Las Vegas, Nevada. The candidate will work remotely with occasional on-site visits and handle day-to-day accounting issues, financial reporting, bank reconciliations, cash flows, and balance sheet analysis.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance
  • Certified Public Accountant (CPA) or CPA candidate preferred
  • 8+ plus years of experience in non-profit or private industry accounting, with track record of progressive accounting positions and responsibilities
  • Thoroughly proficient in Microsoft Excel, with extensive knowledge of Intacct, FinancialEdge, Abila MIP or a similar accounting program
  • Strong knowledge of GAAP accounting standards and procedures
  • Commitment to timely task completion, with ability to establish work priorities and meet deadlines are essential
  • Strong attention to detail, while multi-tasking successfully
  • Solid verbal and written communication skills

Responsibilities

  • Support and maintain all financial schedules related to revenue recognition, inter-company balances, rent, payroll, accruals, fixed assets and prepaid expenses
  • Reconcile general ledger accounts and prepare journal entries for the monthly, quarterly and annual accounting close
  • Ensure the completeness and accuracy of monthly bank reconciliations and create monthly cash flow statements
  • Assist with management of state and federal grants, disbursements, guidelines and reporting
  • Review the company’s financial data to identify and resolve discrepancies
  • Assist in the preparation of financial budgets or forecasts
  • Create financial reports and perform financial analysis for Senior Management, Board of Trustees, Finance and Audit Committees
  • Work with external auditors to facilitate audit requests, prepare annual audit schedules and submissions, as well as IRS Form 990 reporting
  • Ensure compliance with GAAP and devise and implement financial policies and procedures to support such compliance
  • Maintain positive vendor relationships, ensure vendor invoices are paid timely and accurately. Address vendor issues within appropriate time frames
  • Direct staff workflow, ensuring that financial transactions are processed accurately and timely
  • Support the CFO and Controller in managing the day-to-day activities of the accounting and finance department
  • Perform ad hoc analysis and projects as needed
  • On-site school visits and management meetings as required
