Summary

Requirements

  • J.D. from an accredited law school with an active license to practice law in at least one U.S. state
  • 8+ years of legal experience in employment law
  • Experience conducting employment investigations. This includes fact-finding interviews and building trust to handle sensitive situations tactfully
  • Flexible with work hours to respond to urgent issues and situational needs, including interviewing witnesses based on their shift schedules
  • Strive for continuous improvement and use data, experimentation, and technology to identify changes that deliver better outcomes
  • Strong business insight to understand and anticipate the nature and magnitude of issues that could arise in various settings
  • Strong task prioritization based on the level of risk to the organization and business priorities
  • Proficiency with Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint

Responsibilities

  • Carry out fair and efficient investigations on serious company policy violations
  • Handle sensitive topics, conducting interviews, reviewing legal and compliance rules, and using data from different systems when necessary
  • Use excellent judgment and extensive knowledge of employment laws for reviews of company policies and procedures
  • Author clear, concise, and professional investigation reports promptly and maintain well-organized and accurate case files
  • Partner with Employee Relations and other members of the Compliance & Risk team within legal, business leadership, and outside counsel to promote consistency and fairness in all practices
  • Train, guide, and mentor members of Employee Relations with respect to the investigations their team conducts
  • Engage in strategy to craft and help implement both proactive and responsive programs and plans to minimize risk to the Company
  • Handle other employment issues and projects, giving reliable legal advice on topics such as employee relations, hiring, training, performance management, discipline, payroll, benefits, and employee leave and accommodation requests

Preferred Qualifications

  • In-house legal experience
  • Law review and/or moot court team experience
  • Experience or study in Human Resources or related fields
  • SPHR or SHRM certification
