Summary
Join Encora as a Senior Data Architect to lead a long-term data modernization initiative. You will design and implement data models and database architecture, migrating legacy systems to a cloud-native environment using open-source technologies. Responsibilities include ensuring data quality, performance, and accessibility, collaborating with cross-functional teams, and guiding data engineers. This role requires 10+ years of experience in data architecture and engineering, expertise in database design, and hands-on cloud experience. You will lead data migration strategies, implement data governance, and optimize database environments. This is a remote, full-time position.
Requirements
- Minimum 10 years of experience in data architecture and data engineering roles
- Strong background in database design and development using PostgreSQL (Aurora or Citus), Snowflake, and SQL Server
- Expertise in data warehousing concepts and modern data architecture patterns
- Hands-on experience in cloud-native environments, preferably AWS
- Proven ability to implement enterprise-grade data governance and security measures
- Experience with complex data migration and transformation projects
- Demonstrated leadership in overseeing large-scale data modernization efforts
- Experience working with cross-functional stakeholders across different time zones
- Detail-oriented and proactive in mitigating data quality and migration risks
Responsibilities
- Design scalable and performant data models aligned with business requirements
- Collaborate with Solution Architects to ensure alignment with the broader data platform architecture
- Ensure data quality, consistency, and accessibility across the solution lifecycle
- Lead data migration strategies from legacy systems to modern platforms
- Oversee the development and execution of ETL pipelines using tools such as AWS Glue, Apache Airflow, and dbt
- Guide data engineers in implementing change data capture (CDC) and transformation workflows
- Implement data validation, quality checks, and enforce data governance standards
- Collaborate with clients to define and apply role-based access controls and audit mechanisms
- Facilitate knowledge transfer to clientβs in-house engineering teams
- Actively participate in technical discussions and decision-making with cross-functional teams
- Provide guidance and mentorship to data engineers throughout the implementation process
- Optimize PostgreSQL (e.g. AWS Aurora) and Snowflake environments for performance and cost
- Lead decommissioning efforts for legacy SQL Server systems while ensuring data integrity
