Synthesia

๐Ÿ“Remote - United Kingdom

Summary

Join Synthesia's DevOps team as a Senior-level member, contributing to Platform Engineering, SRE, and Developer Experience. Work on a cross-product platform, supporting Product Engineering teams and aiming for a 'bring your application' model. Collaborate with Engineering teams to improve efficiency and reduce frustration, manage vendor relationships, and build feedback loops for cost management. The role involves working in a small, cross-disciplinary team, with a focus on improving the DevOps culture. Synthesia offers a competitive salary, stock options, and 25 days of paid leave. The role is remote, but limited to EU countries, UK, or Switzerland.

Requirements

  • Supporting and operating a 24/7 high volume SAAS product (every member of the DevOps team is part of the on call rota)
  • Good remote worker experience (enabling async work with a strong focus on written communications)
  • CI and CD patterns and implementations (we use Github Actions running on our own fleet in AWS)
  • Infrastructure As Code (Terraform and Terragrunt today)
  • Cloud based hosting (AWS)
  • Container based workloads (ECS, K8s)
  • Linux principals
  • Scripting languages (generally Python)
  • Collaboration and pairing
  • The ability to work in an ill-defied environment and 6 week timescales

Responsibilities

  • Expand and support our cross-product platform that Product Engineering teams build and run on top of
  • Aim to get close to "bring the application" with all the rest being batteries included
  • Manage Vendor relationships, helping to build feedback loops for Product Engineering teams to stay on top of their costs and pairing up without sister team InfoSec to keep Synthesia safe and complaint
  • Work with Engineering teams to help them work more efficiently, effectively, and with less frustration, including how they run locally, and smoothing the path to Production

Preferred Qualifications

  • Temporal.io (we selfhost). We use it for lots of things
  • MongoDB (we use Atlas). Weโ€™d like to be better at performance and managing a rapidly growing database
  • Kubernetes (weโ€™re a mixed house today with ECS and EKS). We have a focus on moving completely to EKS
  • FinOps. Working with our finance team to understand how the business wants to allocate costs, baking those feedback loops down into our platform, managing vendors and driving down costs
  • Application development. If youโ€™re currently a application engineer working in Python or NodeJS with a strong operational slant, that can work well for us
  • Observability (Datadog), with a strong focus on enabling and empowering Engineering teams to understand their product in Production
  • SAAS Networking. Geolocation based performance, the path to multi-region, frontend performance optimisation

Benefits

  • 25 days of leave + local holidays
  • EUR/GDP/CHF 100.000 base + stock option plan
