This full-time, remote position, contingent on contract award, focuses on ensuring the scalability, performance, and security of Drupal-based applications. You will collaborate with cross-functional teams and contribute to innovative, user-centered solutions. The role offers a unique opportunity to make a meaningful impact on a project that aligns with Bixal’s mission. Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in a relevant field, plus at least four (4) years of related experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Experience in Drupal development, particularly in Drupal 9/10, including custom module development, theming, and configuration management
  • Experience with decoupled architectures and integrating Drupal with front-end frameworks like Next.js, React, or Vue.js
  • Strong understanding of GraphQL, REST APIs, and JSON API for headless Drupal implementations
  • Experience working with federal digital service guidelines and accessibility standards (Section 508, WCAG)
  • Familiarity with Agile development methodologies, CI/CD pipelines, and Git-based workflows
  • Experience with containerized environments (Docker, Kubernetes) and cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, or similar)
  • Ability to troubleshoot and optimize database queries and caching strategies
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills, with experience working in cross-functional teams
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a Public Trust security clearance

Responsibilities

  • Develop, enhance, and maintain a decoupled Drupal CMS powering VA.gov’s Facilities and Public Website
  • Architect scalable, high-performance solutions that integrate with Next.js, GraphQL, and Vets-API
  • Implement structured content models, taxonomies, and workflows to support dynamic content delivery
  • Ensure Drupal best practices for security, accessibility, and compliance with VA.gov platform guidelines
  • Develop custom modules, API integrations, and data migration scripts for seamless content management
  • Work closely with front-end engineers to integrate Drupal with Next.js and React-based applications
  • Collaborate with designers and content teams to create structured, reusable content solutions
  • Mentor junior engineers, conduct code reviews, and ensure adherence to best practices
  • Participate in Agile development cycles, contributing to sprint planning and backlog grooming
  • Engage with VA stakeholders to gather technical requirements and provide expert recommendations
  • Implement automated testing strategies for robust and maintainable code
  • Optimize Drupal performance, ensuring fast-loading pages and efficient API interactions
  • Conduct security audits and compliance checks in line with VA security standards
  • Monitor site performance, logs, and error reports, proactively identifying and resolving issues
  • Other relevant duties as qualified and trained to perform

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with VA.gov, government digital services, or healthcare-related platforms
  • Knowledge of Drupal migrations, multisite configurations, and enterprise content modeling
  • Understanding of federal security compliance (FISMA, FedRAMP, etc.)
  • A strong advocate for open-source contributions and community engagement
