Senior Engineering Manager

Summary

Join Grafana Labs as a Senior Engineering Manager to lead one or two frontend squads. This remote role, open to US Eastern Time zone applicants, requires a strong technical background and experience managing engineering teams. You will be responsible for fostering a productive environment, collaborating with cross-functional teams, and ensuring successful product delivery. The ideal candidate possesses strong technical skills in React/TypeScript, project management expertise, and excellent interpersonal abilities. Requirements

• Have a strong technical background and be capable of engaging in technical conversations and challenging teams to arrive at strong technical decisions themselves
• Be comfortable working with engineering teams who have a strong sense of autonomy in their decision making, be it technical or product focussed
• Have enough technical skills/understanding of our React/TypeScript stack to manage a highly technical team/product
• Be great with people and adept at managing relationships, be able to hit the right balance between empathy and giving candid feedback to help your team members grow
• Keep up-to-date with the latest technical trends and shifts in order to maintain and enhance your understanding of the challenges your teams face
• Have a good understanding of a software development process that takes a user-centered approach
• Be experienced in Cloud-first delivery practices, promoting continuous automated testing and feature toggles as ways to mitigate risk
• Be familiar with being on-call and performing operational tasks with the use of runbooks

Responsibilities

• Manage a team of engineers working on core Grafana features and experience, helping them to perform at their best
• Act as project manager
• Work with cross-functional peers in Product management and Product Design to ensure the product roadmap is defined and up-to-date
• Conduct Regular 1:1s to ensure your direct reports are motivated, happy and engaged
• Coach and mentor your direct reports
• Provide continuous feedback to engineers to ensure that they can add value while maintaining high standards
• Contribute to and review design documents for upcoming features
• Perform project management tasks to ensure successful incremental delivery
• Collaborate with Product Management and Product Design peers
• Ensure features are well-defined and ready for development
• Advise your reports on how to break down features into tasks
• Collaborate with our Engineering Leaders to help define and influence product strategy, roadmaps and technical designs
• Maintain headcount by working with our People Ops team to attract and hire talent
• Be an active member of our on-call rota for Grafana Frontend

Preferred Qualifications

• Have a Computer Science degree or equivalent experience from having worked as an engineer before moving into Management
• Have some customer facing experience
