Requirements

  • 5+ years of engineering experience developing and deploying hardware products in the real world
  • Extensive electronics experience, including circuit design, fabrication prep, microcontroller use, and troubleshooting
  • 3D CAD skills using software like Fusion 360 to design physical form factors
  • Knowledge regarding different manufacturing techniques and their constraints
  • Ability to leverage 3D printing to speed up prototyping and development
  • Software development experience using Python, Bash, and the Linux ecosystem
  • A knack for wrangling complexity and driving towards simple solutions
  • Familiarity with domain best practices and how to implement them into existing teams and processes
  • A track record of taking business-critical projects from start to finish
  • A growth mindset -- you should be a lifelong learner, hungry to learn new technologies, frameworks, and skills

Responsibilities

  • Lead R&D for all hardware initiatives at AirGarage
  • Design, build, and test hardware to be resilient even when operating in challenging environments
  • Unlock new levels of scale, reliability, and quality for our existing hardware products by improving all aspects of their design and manufacturing
  • Establish and maintain supplier relationships to ensure we’re getting high quality components at sustainable prices
  • Collaborate with the team to develop initial software interfaces for new hardware products and write supporting documentation so other team members can help as needed
  • Increase observability and quality assurance measures for deployed units
  • Set standards and processes for the hardware team so that we can move faster and more effectively as the team grows
  • Collaborate with broader engineering team to ensure deep integrations between our hardware and software products
  • Travel on-site to test and troubleshoot devices in the field, staying close to the real world application and performance of our products
  • See the direct impact of your work on our products and business
