Summary

Join EasyPost, a YC unicorn, as a Senior Platform Engineer specializing in database platform automation. You will build and maintain internal tooling to automate database workflows, establish metrics to track cost and impact, and integrate tooling into CI/CD pipelines. This role requires collaboration with database engineers, security and compliance teams, and mentorship of other engineers. You will define the interface between Product Engineering and the database layer, ensuring secure, observable, and easy-to-understand internal platforms. Your work directly impacts engineering velocity, system reliability, and the company's ability to meet data governance and compliance requirements. This is a high-leverage role for an automation-focused engineer who wants to remove barriers and improve the developer experience.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science (or a related field), or equivalent professional experience
  • 7+ years of experience in software engineering, with a focus on infrastructure, developer tooling, or internal systems
  • Direct experience working with relational or distributed database technologies, especially MySQL, Cassandra, or Galera
  • Hands-on experience with infrastructure-as-code and config management (e.g., Terraform, Ansible), especially in Azure, AWS or GCP
  • Proficiency in programming languages such as Ruby, Python, Go, or Rust, as well as comfort with scripting and automation tasks
  • Experience building or integrating CI/CD/development pipelines, with a focus on data-aware deployments and observability
  • Demonstrated ability to quantify impact through metrics — whether it’s reducing time spent on manual processes or increasing deployment reliability
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with an emphasis on clarity, empathy, and documentation

Responsibilities

  • Design, build, and maintain internal tooling that automates and streamlines database-related workflows — including schema migration pipelines, automatic DDL evaluation, query analysis, and compliance checks
  • Establish and track metrics to understand the cost and impact of critical database workflows — e.g., time to review DDL changes, change failure rates, mean time to recovery, and developer wait times — and use that data to drive tooling improvements
  • Integrate database tooling into CI/CD pipelines, enabling safer, faster, and more predictable delivery of database changes
  • Use infrastructure-as-code practices (Terraform, Ansible) to manage and scale our Azure-based database environments with consistency and auditability
  • Partner with database engineers to codify best practices into self-service tools, reducing repetitive manual work and increasing deployment confidence
  • Collaborate with security and compliance teams to automate enforcement of data governance and retention policies
  • Build observability into your tooling — ensuring changes are visible, traceable, and easy to debug when things go wrong
  • Take ownership of reliability and usability for the systems you build, from implementation through maintenance and support
  • Mentor engineers and contribute to a culture of operational excellence, continuous improvement, and engineering empowerment

Preferred Qualifications

  • Deep expertise in developer tooling and platform engineering, especially around database workflows
  • Strong focus on metrics-driven development, with the ability to set goals, gather data, and iterate based on real-world feedback
  • High standards for security, auditability, and compliance, and a track record of baking those into tooling by default
  • Initiative and autonomy in identifying pain points, prioritizing high-impact work, and driving cross-functional projects
  • Leadership in collaborative engineering environments, with the ability to influence culture, systems, and standards
  • Clear and consistent communication in a remote-first team, including documentation, technical proposals, and cross-team coordination

Benefits

  • Comprehensive medical, dental, vision, and life insurance
  • Competitive compensation package and equity
  • Monthly work from home stipend of $50
  • Flexible work schedule and paid time off
  • Collaborative culture with a supportive team
  • A great place to work with unlimited growth opportunities
  • The opportunity to make massive contributions at a hyper-growth company
  • Make an impact on a product helping ship millions of packages per day
