Senior Privacy Counsel

Summary

Join BigID, a leading innovative tech startup, as a Senior Privacy Counsel and contribute to building and maturing privacy programs. You will ensure compliance with global privacy and emerging AI laws and regulations, manage related risks, and serve as the subject matter expert. Partner with cross-functional teams, including Product Management, to enhance privacy offerings. Monitor global privacy and AI laws, conduct DPIAs and AI risk assessments, and draft legal documents. Requirements

• 7+ years of direct experience in privacy law, with a strong preference for in-house experience at a tech company
• Experience advising on AI governance, risk management, and the evolving AI regulatory landscape
• J.D. and active membership in at least one U.S. state bar
• A highly collaborative spirit with the ability to operate autonomously and build strong cross-functional relationships
• A pragmatic, business-oriented approach to problem solving and risk management
• Exceptional communication skills, with the ability to distill complex legal concepts for non-lawyers

Responsibilities

• Monitor global privacy and AI laws, translating complex requirements into practical guidance for business and product teams
• Participate in the AI Governance Committee to help shape and implement BigID’s framework for responsible and ethical AI use
• Partner with Product and Engineering teams to embed Privacy by Design principles throughout the product development lifecycle
• Conduct DPIAs and AI risk assessments on products, systems, and vendors to proactively identify and mitigate compliance risks
• Conduct DPIAs and AI risk assessments on products, systems, and vendors, and maintain up-to-date RoPAs to proactively identify and mitigate compliance risks
• Support the commercial legal team by drafting and negotiating DPAs and complex privacy and AI terms in customer and vendor contracts
• Draft external and internal-facing privacy and AI documentation, and develop training materials to promote a strong company culture of privacy and responsible AI
• Manage the Data Subject Request fulfillment process and provide legal guidance during data incident response investigations
• Provide strategic guidance to the Product Management teams, helping guide the roadmap and development of BigID’s privacy product offerings

Preferred Qualifications

Relevant certifications (e.g., CIPP, AIGP) are highly desirable
