Join SimplePractice as our Director, Senior Counsel (Assistant General Counsel) and provide strategic legal guidance across our fast-growing digital health company. You will leverage your deep legal expertise and business acumen to support product innovation within the complex healthcare technology regulatory landscape. Key responsibilities include product counseling, ensuring privacy and compliance (HIPAA, state privacy laws), handling commercial transactions, monitoring regulatory affairs, managing legal risks, and collaborating cross-functionally. The ideal candidate possesses a JD with active bar membership, 8+ years of relevant legal experience (technology, SaaS, healthcare), and demonstrated expertise in privacy law. A strong understanding of AI legal and ethical considerations and experience advising on SaaS products are also crucial. Requirements
- JD degree with active bar membership
- 8+ years of legal experience, with significant experience in technology, SaaS and/or healthcare sectors
- Demonstrated expertise in privacy law (HIPAA, CCPA/CPRA, GDPR)
- Experience advising on SaaS products and services
- Strong understanding of AI legal and ethical considerations
- Proven ability to operate in fast-paced, evolving environments
- Experience balancing strategic vision with tactical execution
- Excellent communication skills with ability to translate complex legal concepts into actionable business guidance
Responsibilities
- Provide practice legal guidance on product development, feature releases, and AI initiatives
- Support privacy team and ensure compliance with HIPAA, state privacy laws, and other applicable regulations
- Draft, review, and negotiate various commercial agreements including vendor contracts, partnership agreements, and customer contracts
- Monitor and advise on healthcare regulations, FDA requirements for clinical decision support, and emerging AI regulations
- Identify legal risks and develop practical solutions that balance business objectives with legal compliance
- Partner with product, engineering, customer support, and executive teams to drive business initiatives forward
Preferred Qualifications
- Healthcare or health tech industry experience
- Experience with insurance billing regulations and compliance
- Background in FDA regulations, particularly around clinical decision support tools
- Experience with PCI compliance
- Prior in-house experience at a growth-stage technology company
