Summary

Kabam is hiring a Senior RPG Champion Designer to join their Vancouver studio for Marvel Contest of Champions. The role involves creating captivating characters and content, designing core RPG systems, establishing a strategic plan for RPG content design, managing and mentoring other designers, analyzing gameplay data, partnering with leads in managing the RPG design team, and sharing knowledge with junior team members.

Requirements

  • 7+ years of experience in the video games industry
  • Experience managing game designers on a live-service title
  • Experience driving roadmapping and planning for live-service deliverables
  • Experience designing playable characters (or abilities, or cards, or units, etc) on at least one shipped title

Responsibilities

  • Create captivating characters and content that players will encounter and interact with throughout the game, encouraging strategy and collection
  • Design core RPG systems like character stats, RPG progression, skills, classes, and abilities, to create a deep and rewarding gameplay experience
  • Establish a long-term strategic plan for RPG content design, live game management, and content releases
  • Directly manage and mentor one or more RPG designers: guide career milestones, manage annual goal setting, and deliver performance reviews
  • Partner in the roadmapping and planning of tasks and responsibilities within the RPG team
  • Consider how a character will fit into an existing character ecosystem and design and build script mechanics for abilities
  • Analyze gameplay data metrics used to understand player behavior (usage rates, pass rates, alliance trends, etc.)
  • Analyze player feedback, behavior, and engagement metrics to identify opportunities for improving the RPG experience
  • Partner with the Content and RPG Leads in managing the daily operations and workflow of the RPG design team
  • Share knowledge, experience, and best practices with junior team members and other disciplines to foster professional growth and development

Preferred Qualifications

  • Curiosity and logical thinking
  • Familiarity with top mobile titles and current market and genre trends with focus on RPGs
  • Bonus if you have raw technical skills including Scripting experience
