Summary

OpenProject is seeking an experienced Backend Developer to join their team of sixteen developers. The successful candidate will support the development of a project management tool, collaborate with product managers and designers, advocate for improvements, and evaluate the production behavior of OpenProject. The role requires proficiency in Ruby on Rails, effective communication skills, and alignment with the company's core values.

Requirements

  • Strong understanding of the Ruby on Rails Framework, relational databases, and web technologies in general
  • Comfortable with working in a highly agile, intensely iterative software development process
  • Effective communication skills (both written and verbal) to achieve consensus with peers and provide clear status updates
  • Alignment with the company's core values: O (Open for new stuff), P (Practical, not dogmatic), E (Engaged for clients and colleagues), N (Neigung, passionate about OpenProject), P (Proactive and accountable)
  • Proficiency in the English language (both written and verbal)

Responsibilities

  • Support the team in enhancing and maintaining the OpenProject software
  • Collaborate with product managers and designers to iteratively conceive new features for OpenProject
  • Advocate for improvements to product quality, security, performance, and architecture
  • Recognize impediments to the team's efficiency and propose and implement solutions
  • Evaluate the production behavior of OpenProject in SaaS infrastructure as well as on-premises
  • Be prepared to support customers on technical requests

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience developing APIs
  • Experience contributing to open source software
  • Experience with the OpenProject product as a user or contributor
