Summary
Join Vesta, a climate startup dedicated to carbon dioxide removal, as a Geochemist (Measurement, Reporting, and Verification). This remote position focuses on analyzing geochemical data, particularly carbonate chemistry and trace metal cycling. You will contribute to multiple projects, requiring strong data analysis skills and experience in aqueous geochemistry and marine carbonate chemistry. The role involves fieldwork, laboratory studies, data management, scientific writing, and collaboration. This is a significant role in building the analytical framework for a fast-growing company. Requirements
- Hold a Ph.D. in geochemistry, oceanography, or a related field
- Demonstrate experience in data analysis and high-quality figure preparation
- Demonstrate extensive and prolific scientific writing ability
- Demonstrate experience in aqueous geochemistry and marine carbonate chemistry
- Possess excellent organizational skills, ability to meet deadlines, and work independently
- Possess excellent communication skills with both scientists and non-scientists
- Have a strong command of the English language, both written and oral
Responsibilities
- Perform geochemical data analysis and quality assurance
- Analyze empirical data within a geochemical framework
- Apply robust statistical methods to model and empirical data
- Interpret and synthesize results for internal and external purposes
- Write reports, manuscripts for peer-reviewed publications, and proposals
- Manage relationships with external collaborators and the data they generate
- Communicate scientific concepts and results to a wide range of audiences
Preferred Qualifications
- Have experience with statistical data analysis (both frequentist and Bayesian approaches)
- Have experience with software and programming languages
- Have field geochemistry/oceanography experience
- Have scientific diving experience
- Have experience constructing and maintaining scientific equipment and experiments, including but not limited to mechanical, electrical, plumbing, compressed gases, CAD, 3D printing, etc
- Have high precision/accuracy analytical geochemistry experience (both field- and lab-based)
