Servo Development Engineer

Summary

Join Western Digital as a highly skilled engineer responsible for optimizing high-performance and robust positioning controllers and real-time servo firmware development for enterprise-class hard disk drives. You will architect robust servo systems, compensating for environmental variables. This role involves researching, designing, developing, and maintaining tools and equipment for characterizing and qualifying robust servo designs. You will also provide failure analysis support and collaborate with other teams to enhance robustness and optimize performance. Requirements

• MS/PhD EE or ME
• Must have 5+ years servo-controller design experience for mechanical dynamic system; experience with design tradeoffs for feedback and feedforward solutions
• Must have 5+ years of experience in Matlab
• Experience in coding C/C++
• Good organizational skills
• Demonstrated strong problem solving and interpersonal skills
• Excellent global communication skills

Responsibilities

• Optimize the high performance and robust positioning controller, and real-time servo firmware development for enterprise-class hard disk drives
• Architect a robust servo system, compensating for environmental variables such as vibration, shock, supply voltage and temperature
• Research, design, develop and maintain tools and equipment related to characterization and qualifying robust servo design
• Provide failure analysis support for integration teams, manufacturing, and reliability testing
• Collaborate with other teams to engineer design improvements that enhance robustness, minimize failures and optimize performance in all usage conditions
• Evaluate feasibility of advanced technologies and their interaction with servo subsystems through simulation and prototyping
