Software Engineer

Summary

The job is for a technical expert in modern software development in C++ within Woven by Toyota's Technologies & Standards team. The role involves influencing the evolution of safety-critical and system software, prototyping new technological solutions, deploying these solutions, and participating in hiring and up-skilling a team of technical experts. The position is either fully remote from the US or hybrid from Japan.

Requirements

• Fluency in English
• Excellent customer and partners management skills
• 15 years+ of experience with modern low-level software development, ideally in C++
• Experience working in multicultural teams and openness to multiple cultures
• Excellent knowledge of modern software development practices
• Experienced engineering practitioner in a commercial products context
• Experience deploying modern software at scale
• Mindset for ownership, growth, and a bias for progress

Responsibilities

• Involvement in the broader technology ecosystem, with a focus on safety-critical and system software, to understand and influence the ongoing evolution of these fields
• Work with internal teams developing the vehicle software platforms, and users of this vehicle software, to identify areas where improvement can be achieved through technological advances
• Prototype new technological solutions, prototype their adoption, and measure improvements
• Work with internal teams to deploy these solutions
• Work with architects to align ongoing feature work with potential future technological advances
• Participate in hiring and up-skilling a team of technical experts
• Promote the creation of an inclusive and emotionally-safe world class engineering culture

Preferred Qualifications

• Contribute to open source projects
• Contribution to international standards
• Publications in academic research
• Presentations at international conferences
• Proficiency Japanese
• Experience writing Rust, production level code
• Automotive Industry or other safety-critical engineering
• Security-conscious software design and implementation
