Summary
Join Terraformation as a Sourcing Assistant and play a key role in identifying, developing, and vetting reforestation and ecosystem restoration projects. You will manage the sourcing pipeline, review applications, maintain data, and communicate with applicants. This part-time, remote position (Colombia or Philippines preferred) offers a competitive hourly rate ($20-$30 USD). The contract is initially for 6 months, with a possibility of renewal. You'll support Terraformation's mission to scale carbon removal and restore ecosystems globally. This foundational role ensures the company can execute its vision and contribute meaningfully to global environmental goals.
Requirements
- Bachelor's Degree in Environmental Science, Forestry, Sustainable Development, or related fields, and fluency in the English language
- 2β3 years of project origination or project management experience, particularly in forestry or sustainable land management projects
- Ability to work cross functionally to define project scopes, timelines, and budgets, as well as assess the ecological, social, and economic viability of projects to ensure successful delivery
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills to work effectively with a wide range of stakeholders (local communities, governments, investors, NGOs, etc.). This includes the ability to build relationships and communicate complex environmental and technical topics to non-expert audiences
- Ability to work and communicate asynchronously in a remote environment. This includes clearly documenting information
- Experience or knowledge of working in diverse geographies, especially those with tropical forests. This includes the ability to respectfully engage stakeholders of diverse backgrounds to align goals and improve the likelihood of project success
- Familiarity with the Google suite of tools (e.g. Docs, Sheets, Drive, Meet) and other communication tools (e.g., Slack, Zoom) to collaborate with teams across regions
- A genuine passion for climate change mitigation, biodiversity, and sustainability. Candidates should demonstrate a strong personal and professional commitment to addressing global environmental challenges
Responsibilities
- Manage the Sourcing Pipeline
- Maintain a well-structured pipeline for incoming applications, tracking progress through stages (e.g., application received, under review, feedback provided, etc.)
- Regularly report pipeline status and provide recommendations for process improvements based on trends
- Review Inbound Applications Against Pre-Defined Criteria
- Review incoming applications from global landowners or organizations seeking to participate in carbon project development
- Assess applicants' alignment with predefined criteria (e.g., values, project scope, financial feasibility, technical capacity, regulatory compliance)
- Communicate with Terraformation's technical teams involved in application review (e.g. GIS and Carbon teams)
- Flag any discrepancies or areas that require further clarification and track these issues for follow-up
- Data Entry and Maintenance of Internal Systems
- Input and update applicant data into internal systems (e.g., CRM, internal tracking tools, spreadsheets)
- Maintain up-to-date records of all applicant statuses, contact information, and relevant documentation
- Ensure the accuracy and completeness of data, identifying and resolving any inconsistencies or gaps in information
- Applicant Communication & Proposal Support
- Communicate with applicants to request additional information or clarify application details when needed, and to ensure smooth progress through the sourcing pipeline
- Ensure all applications are reviewed in a timely manner and ensure no candidates are overlooked or delayed
- Provide actionable feedback to applicants to help them improve their proposals and align with competitive requirements
- Engage applicants in discussions to understand their specific needs and help shape competitive proposals around shared project goals
- Offer guidance on the specific steps applicants need to take to move forward, creating a positive applicant experience
- Support in Carbon Project Development Context
- Provide general support for applicants in navigating the early stages of carbon project development
- Communicate basic carbon project development concepts or requirements to applicants, assisting them in positioning their projects for success
- Ensure all communications align with organizational goals and industry best practices for carbon project development
Preferred Qualifications
- Knowledge of climate science, ecology, and environmental policy would be particularly useful, as the role requires an understanding of the scientific basis for reforestation and the broader climate impact of such projects. This knowledge could be demonstrated by advanced degrees or certifications or prior experience
- Understanding of land tenure, ecosystem restoration techniques, and native species restoration is beneficial
- Experience working with local communities and a strong understanding of the social dynamics involved in land restoration
- Familiarity with the financial aspects of large-scale environmental projects, including budgeting, fundraising, and securing investment
- Familiarity with GIS (Geographic Information Systems), database and pipeline management, and data visualization tools to help assess land areas for reforestation
