Summary

Join Demandbase as a Staff Database Reliability Engineer (DBRE) and lead the evolution of our database infrastructure. You will be responsible for the reliability, scalability, and performance of the systems powering our B2B SaaS platform, ensuring real-time personalization and analytics for major enterprise marketers. This role involves providing technical leadership to a global DBRE team, driving automation and best practices, and collaborating with engineering teams to enhance speed without compromising stability. The base compensation range for this position varies based on location, with a range of $140,000 - $210,000 for candidates in the SF Bay Area. Actual compensation packages are determined by factors such as skillset, experience, and depth of experience.

Requirements

  • 12+ years of experience in database engineering or operations
  • Deep expertise with AWS RDS (PostgreSQL/MySQL) and DynamoDB
  • Strong experience with performance tuning, HA strategies, and data security
  • Solid Linux skills and scripting (Python, Shell)
  • Hands-on with Terraform, CI/CD (GitLab or similar), Docker/Kubernetes
  • Familiar with observability stacks (Prometheus, Grafana, Datadog)
  • Experience leading teams or mentoring other engineers
  • Clear communicator — both technical and collaborative

Responsibilities

  • Own our core database infrastructure
  • Design, operate, and scale AWS RDS (PostgreSQL/MySQL), DynamoDB, and BigQuery
  • Ensure performance, uptime, security, and cost-efficiency across environments
  • Architect solutions for high availability and disaster recovery
  • Automate everything
  • Build and maintain automation for provisioning, backups, failover, schema changes
  • Use Python, Shell scripting, GitLab CI/CD, and Terraform to reduce toil
  • Standardize infrastructure via reusable templates and IaC modules
  • Partner across teams
  • Work with product and platform engineers to optimize schemas and queries
  • Support development velocity with tools, docs, and onboarding support
  • Drive performance tuning, cost monitoring, and reliability best practices
  • Lead incident response & observability
  • Own database observability with Prometheus, Grafana, and Datadog
  • Participate in on-call rotations and lead resolution of database issues
  • Continuously improve detection, alerting, and recovery processes
  • Mentor & lead a global team
  • Guide DBREs across time zones (U.S. and India) with clear direction and support
  • Encourage learning, documentation, and a culture of shared ownership

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in B2B SaaS or high-scale MarTech platforms
  • Familiarity with Google Cloud (BigQuery, GCP tooling)
  • Exposure to data modeling for analytics or event-driven architectures
  • Understanding of SLAs, multi-tenancy, or customer-facing reliability challenges
