Requirements
- Degree in Engineering preferably mechanical engineering
- Demonstrable experience in embedding sustainability principles into Master planning/infrastructure design such as Energy and water reduction
- Demonstrable experience providing input on a complex, multi-disciplinary project
- Minimum of 15 years of professional experience in engineering, with a focus on sustainability and green building practices
- Proven track record of successfully completing LEED and/or Envision projects, demonstrating a deep understanding of sustainable design and construction principles. and the ability to integrate their requirements into design packages
- Prior experience and up to date knowledge in carbon accounting / reporting, decarbonisation and whole life carbon
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to effectively collaborate with internal and external partners at all levels of the organization
- Strategic mindset with the ability to think critically, analyze data, and identify opportunities for sustainability integration and improvement
- Good problem-solving skills and ability to be adaptable, work flexibly, follow guidance, meet deadlines and produce work requiring minimal re-work
- Awareness of how their area of expertise fits in the context of the team and project objectives
Responsibilities
- Ensure infrastructure assets design in compliance with NEOM frameworks, policies, and procedures and applicable laws, regulations, sustainability framework, green rating systems and industry standards
- Oversee the development and implementation of compliance programs and processes
- Ensure sustainability requirements are integrated into all infrastructure design documents, such as (but not limited to): technical specifications, drawings and design criteria of THE LINE assets
- Provide expert advice on decarbonization strategies, aligning with carbon budgets and Net Zero goals and review LCA reports
- Provide expert advice on Energy and Water reduction
- Promote and encourage low-carbon solutions and ensure carbon reporting is recorded and communicated during the design stage
- Prepare compliance reports and communicate findings to stakeholders
- Stay updated on relevant laws, regulations, and industry standards that impact compliance. This involves conducting research, interpreting regulations, and advising designers/stakeholders on compliance requirements
- Asses potential risks and develop strategies to mitigate compliance risks. This involves identifying potential areas of non-compliance, implementing controls, and monitoring risk indicators
- Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders, such as regulatory authorities, auditors, and business partners. This includes responding to inquiries, participating in audits or inspections, and maintaining positive relationships with relevant stakeholders
- Develop a framework for tracking and reporting key sustainability metrics, including energy efficiency, water conservation, waste management, and carbon emissions reduction
- Ensure that the sustainability design outcomes align with the United Nations SDGs and IFC PS, contributing to the NEOM's overall sustainability goals
- Provide leadership and guidance to the sustainability team, fostering a culture of innovation, collaboration, and continuous improvement
- Supports the effective and efficient implementation of THE LINE Proponent (and their design consultants) defined sustainability objectives and requirements into the procurement and management of relevant designers including, but not limited to
- Development of scope of works and contracts
- Review of design consultant proposals (commercial and technical, as appropriate)
- Input to design consultant onboarding and engagement
- Input to design review process (commercial and technical, as appropriate)
- Management of work in compliance with relevant NEOM Procedures, Standards and Employer Requirements, notably NEOM-NPR-EMR-001, NEOM-NEV-EMR-401 and NEOM-NEV-PRC-501
- Management and reporting of design consultant progress against Key Performance Indicators and targets
- Supports THE LINE Projects Sustainability team meeting or exceeding defined Key Performance Indicators and targets
- Additional responsibilities as assigned by Head of Sustainability Performance Excellence
