Join Degreed as a Senior Backend Engineer and contribute to our Learning Experience Platform (LXP) team. Design, implement, and optimize scalable backend services, prioritizing quality, decoupling, performance, and maintainability. Requirements

• 7+ years of overall experience in backend engineering, including 3+ years designing and optimizing scalable APIs and microservices
• Proven experience developing and scaling backend services for complex, high-scale cloud-native applications
• Strong hands-on skills in backend programming languages such as C# or Java, with expertise in building robust REST APIs
• Experience with SQL and database technologies like PostgreSQL, MySQL, or MongoDB, including schema design and query optimization
• Familiarity with containerization, event-driven architectures, and caching strategies
• Understanding of distributed systems and architectural patterns for building scalable solutions
• Proven ability to work in fast-paced, startup-like environments with evolving priorities
• Strong ownership mindset with a bias for action and delivering impactful results

Responsibilities

• Own end-to-end implementation of new backend services and enhancements to existing services
• Continuously improve system architecture by applying modern engineering practices and re-architecting legacy components
• Design and run A/B tests to measure feature impact and make data-informed improvements
• Investigate and troubleshoot production issues to ensure platform stability and performance
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to deliver high-quality backend solutions aligned with product goals
• Mentor team members, promote knowledge sharing, and contribute to a culture of learning
• Work in an Agile environment, fostering a team culture of trust, collaboration, and continuous growth

Preferred Qualifications

• Contributions to open-source projects or impactful side projects that showcase technical innovation
• Experience with UI frameworks like Angular is a plus
• Knowledge of semantic search or Elasticsearch is a strong advantage
