Summary

Join TECKpert as a Virtual Chief Information Security Officer (vCISO) supporting a government agency in Tallahassee, Florida. This remote position, with occasional on-site meetings, requires a minimum of 10 years of experience in a senior information security role and specific certifications. You will be responsible for developing and maintaining the agency's cybersecurity program, including incident response and risk management. The contract is full-time for 36 months with potential extensions, offering competitive hourly pay. Candidates located in the Southeast are preferred. US-based candidates only; no third parties or sponsorship.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Information Security, Computer Science, or related field
  • Minimum 10 years in a senior information security role, including experience with government or large organizations (350+ users, 5+ sites)
  • Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP)
  • Certified Information Security Manager (CISM) or Certified Information Systems Auditor (CISA)
  • NIST Cybersecurity Framework & Controls
  • Incident Response & Crisis Management
  • Vendor Risk Management & Compliance
  • Security Operations & Vulnerability Management
  • Microsoft 365 Security Suite, Azure AD, Endpoint Detection & Response
  • Patch Management, SIEM, and Threat Intelligence Platforms

Responsibilities

  • Establish and document a comprehensive cybersecurity program aligned with NIST frameworks
  • Develop a vision, mission, and strategy document for cybersecurity
  • Assess current cybersecurity practices and guiding documents
  • Create and implement a vulnerability and patch management program
  • Develop and consolidate the District’s Incident Response Plan (IRP)
  • Design a Vendor Risk Management Program, including a cybersecurity questionnaire for critical suppliers
  • Recommend cybersecurity awareness training for employees
  • Participate in monthly District Security Committee meetings
  • Conduct monthly cybersecurity check-ins and threat intelligence reporting
  • Perform an annual cybersecurity assessment and provide a report with key findings and recommendations
  • Support the District’s disaster recovery exercises
  • Provide immediate response for cybersecurity incidents, ensuring 24/7 availability
  • Lead investigations, containment, and recovery efforts
  • Coordinate with internal IT teams and external agencies during security breaches

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in Cybersecurity, Information Technology, or related field
  • Experience working with water management districts, municipalities, or government entities
  • Familiarity with Florida state cybersecurity regulations
