Summary
Join Rocketship Public Schools as a Wellness Counselor Intern and contribute to unleashing the potential in every student. As a member of our Multi-Tiered Systems of Support (MTSS) Team, you will provide direct mental health services to general education students, consultation and coaching to school leaders and teachers, and support with ongoing implementation and coaching of strategies to help students succeed in their classrooms.
Requirements
- Active and current enrollment in a Master’s Level (or higher) Mental Health Program (e.g. MSW, MFT, PCC, or School Counseling/PPSC)
- Commitment to Rocketship’s special education inclusion model and overall mission to close the achievement gap within our lifetime
- Familiarity with socio-emotional learning competencies, trauma informed education practices, multi-tiered systems of supports (MTSS), and restorative practices
Responsibilities
- Create treatment plans and goals to address counseling service for the purposes of fostering better mental health and positive learning environments for students at all Tiers (Small group interventions, Gen-Ed Counseling, SEL and Community Meetings, and Behavior Supports)
- Provide culturally appropriate and sensitive school-based mental health services in the forms of individual, group, and therapeutic case management, crisis intervention, and consultation services as required by the student’s general education plan
- Provide crisis intervention for both general education students and special education students as needed
- Collaborate with and be a part of any coordinated meetings (SST meetings, MTSS meetings) as the mental health professional
- Maintain case notes for student services provided in compliance with the state licensing board and professional code of ethics
- Provide consultation with parents, teachers, and other appropriate staff regarding the student’s program and any adaptations/materials needed to facilitate improved performance in the classroom or at home
- Maintain relationships and effectively communicate with school leaders, teachers, and parents in all facets of the position
- Ensure implementation and fidelity of behavior supports plans including creation, progress monitoring, and ongoing support
- Maintain a close working relationship with other members of the Network Support ISE Team (NeST—Rocketship’s centralized office that operates in support of its schools and regions) to ensure exchange of best practices, coordination of efforts, and general support for the Integrated Special Education department
- Support with parent training to teach skills in regards to supporting a student’s mental health and social emotional learning
