Summary

Join STCU, a top-performing credit union, as an Advocacy & Government Relations intern. This internship offers a variety of special projects focused on government and public affairs, working within the Community Impact and Advocacy department. You will manage, analyze, and report on bills and policies impacting credit union members and the community across multiple states and at the federal level. The position can be fully remote, hybrid, or in-person, with some potential travel. The internship runs from Summer 2025 to Spring 2026, averaging 15-20 hours per week. STCU offers excellent benefits, including paid time off and flexible schedules. The internship is open to currently enrolled college students seeking credits.

Requirements

  • Be an enrolled college student for the entirety of the internship and seeking credits, through Spring 2026 (Masters/law students OK)
  • Currently working on a degree in Political Science, Government Relations, Public Administration, Economics or Law, Business Administration or similar. Or, an intended career path in politics or government relations
  • Be versatile to work in a small team as a contributor and self-starter
  • Have knowledge in public policy, the legislative process, and advocacy related topics
  • Possess analytical and research skills, ability to take complex legislative and policy information and synthesize it into high level executive summaries
  • Be organized and good at helping others get organized
  • Have excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Have excellent verbal, organizational and writing skills
  • Possess professional work ethic and independent time management skills
  • Be proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, including Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel, Teams, and Forms
  • Have reliable transportation

Responsibilities

  • Manage, analyze, and report on bills and policy issues that impact credit union members, employees, and the community for Washington, Idaho, Oregon, and at the federal level
  • Research and summarize material on emerging and existing legislative issues as it pertains to credit unions, education, and other related matters
  • Assist in coordination of legislative and hike the hill visits
  • Support CI&A team on special projects

Preferred Qualifications

Have previous experience in public policy or government work or internships (i.e.: Congressional internship, Legislature Internship, campaign experience, etc.)
