Summary

Join SMX Space and Intelligence Business Unit as an Associate Systems Engineer and contribute to the next generation of Space Force Remote Sensing capabilities. You will be part of the Missile Track Custody (MTC) Epoch 1 Program, providing ground segment capabilities for a medium Earth orbit satellite constellation. This hybrid role (remote or on-site in Broomfield, CO) involves translating customer needs into design artifacts, contributing to system architecture, working with the software development team, identifying project risks, and maintaining system documentation. The ideal candidate possesses strong communication and organizational skills, along with relevant experience in systems or software engineering. A U.S. DoD Secret Security clearance is required.

Requirements

  • This position will require the ability to obtain a U.S. government DoD Secret Security clearance
  • U.S. Citizenship is required
  • Candidate must also agree to participate in a background screen
  • BS degree in Systems Engineering, Mathematics, Computer Science or another relevant field
  • 2+ years of professional experience in a systems or software engineer position; or an advanced degree without experience
  • Excellent organization skills with exceptional attention to detail
  • Strong and effective verbal and written communication skills

Responsibilities

  • Gather and analyze customer needs/requirements and translate them into design artifacts (feature designs, use cases, requirements specification, functional architectures, interface specifications, etc.) that can be used by the software development team
  • Contribute to the high-level system architecture and design (in collaboration with assigned software architect) to ensure that the software development team can build a system that meets the requirements
  • Work with the software development team to ensure that the software is integrated with the system and tested thoroughly to ensure it meets the requirements
  • Identify risks associated with the software development project, including technical risks, schedule risks, and budget risks
  • Create and maintain system documentation, including system requirements, design documents, and test plans
  • Communicate with stakeholders, including customers, software engineers, program managers, and other engineers, to ensure that the project is on track and that everyone is aware of any issues or risks
  • Provide support to the software development team, troubleshooting issues and providing guidance on best practices and industry standards

Preferred Qualifications

  • Interim or Active DoD Secret clearance or higher is preferred
  • Detail oriented
  • Good verbal and written communication skills
  • Automated testing (Cucumber, Playwright)
  • Experience as a scrum master
  • Microservices architecture
  • Experience with Agile software development methodology
  • Experience with tools such as Jira, Confluence, Atlassian
  • Experience with general tools such as Excel, MS Project, and PowerPoint
  • Interim or Active DoD SECRET security clearance or higher
