Summary

Semmes, Bowen & Semmes is hiring a Benefits and Retirement Specialist to manage and administer their benefits and retirement programs in their Baltimore office. The position requires a Bachelorโ€™s degree and five years of relevant experience, with expertise in benefits and retirement regulations. Responsibilities include managing employee benefits and retirement plans, serving as the primary point person for benefit-related questions, supporting leave requests, and ensuring compliance with employment laws. Requirements

  • Bachelorโ€™s degree in human resources management, Business Administration, or a similar field
  • Five years of relevant work experience, with progressive experience in administering retirement and employee benefits programs and processes

Responsibilities

  • Provide day-to-day management of the suite of employee benefits and retirement plans
  • Function as primary point person and subject matter expert for all medical, dental, vision, HSA, FSA, group life insurances, STD and LTD, pension, and 401k employee questions and consult with benefit vendors as needed
  • Support benefit changes in a timely fashion and in accordance with firm policies
  • Serve as point of contact for providing accurate and timely responses to employees related to benefits and retirement questions and needs
  • Support the processing and administration of all leave requests, including FMLA, paid family leave, etc
  • Provide retirement plan communications, ensures legal compliance, and other activities to support employee participation and program success
  • Ensure accurate and timely processing and monthly reconciliation of carriersโ€™ invoices and submission of payment requests
  • Work closely with outside consultants on annual benefit plan renewals, and plan design changes/recommendations
  • Execute various employee benefits processes/projects including annual benefit guides and Open Enrollment from start to finish
  • Write reports, business correspondence, and policy and procedure manuals
  • Primary point of contact to report and process any Workersโ€™ Compensation claims
  • Contribute to the development of policies and procedures related to benefits and retirement programs and processes
  • Participate as a Human Resources team member, attending staff meetings, and supporting the implementation and administration of various department initiatives, managing, performing, or assisting with various projects, processes, and programs

Preferred Qualifications

  • CEBS or other benefits plan certifications is a plus
  • Previous experience at a law firm, administering a pension plan and self-insured medical plans is a plus
