Summary
Join American University of the Caribbean School of Medicine as a Career Advisor! In this role, you will prepare students for graduate medical education by providing career planning advice and resources. You will work collaboratively with a team to support students through the residency matching process. Responsibilities include conducting advising workshops and one-on-one sessions, reviewing application documents, and contributing to department initiatives. A bachelor's degree is required, and experience in advisement, teaching, and public speaking is essential. Excellent communication and organizational skills are also necessary. Requirements
- Bachelorโs degree required
- Background in advisement/teaching, public speaking, writing and working with students
- Excellent verbal and written skills (fluidly writing and speaking in the English language)
- Excellent organization skills and disciplined independent worker
- Proficient in typing
- Excellent communication and customer service skills
- Competence to quickly adapt to platforms for student access
Responsibilities
- Participates in career planning and advising workshops, such as those designed in-house by the Office of Career Advisement, or by AAMCโs Careers in Medicine and other presentations, both on campuses and at clinical sites
- Communicates with students on all career planning advisement needs
- Advises students on strategies that help them through the NRMP Match and other residency matching services, such as timelines and registration requirements for ECFMG, ERAS, NRMP, etc
- Conducts one-on-one career planning advisement in formats such as face-to-face, via telephone, video, web, and by email with students
- Researches and assists in distributing materials regarding career planning, interviewing questions and strategies, professionalism, program hiring trends, in addition to that which is provided by the Senior Manager and Manager of Career Advisement
- Participates in creating and maintaining OCA Resource Library of mock videos, professional publications and journals, bank of interview questions and career planning strategies
- Reviews residency application documents for accuracy
- Participates and contributes to other OCA department initiatives
- Works collaboratively with team members, other departmentsโ staff, and Manager to enhance overall student satisfaction
- Attends and participates positively in department meetings and discussions
- Participates cooperatively in inter-department and University initiatives
- Maintains professionalism through language, action, and dress code at all times
- Convenes with peers and Manager of Career Advisement on best practices and problem-solving of student issues
- Convenes with Manager of Career Advisement on student and administrative issues affecting student progress and/or outcomes
- Participates in web and in-person professionally-related training and conferences
- Works collaboratively with all student facing services to advise students
- Completes additional projects as assigned
Preferred Qualifications
- Masterโs preferred
- Knowledge of the medical educational landscape a plus
