Requirements

  • Unencumbered and valid LCDC III License, as required by the state
  • Bachelor's degree that meets the behavior science degree requirements or nursing from an accredited school or university
  • Previous experience in substance abuse assessment, counseling, or related roles may be required
  • Understanding of addiction psychology, assessment tools, treatment modalities, and ethical guidelines
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills to interact with clients, colleagues, and other professionals effectively

Responsibilities

  • Assessment and Evaluation: Conduct thorough assessments of clients to determine the extent and nature of their substance abuse or addiction problems
  • Clinical Diagnosis: Utilize diagnostic criteria to determine the presence and severity of substance use disorders and any co-occurring mental health conditions
  • Treatment Planning: Develop individualized treatment plans based on assessment findings, client history, and identified needs
  • Discharge Summaries: Complete discharge summaries and discharge clients with appropriate referrals
  • Case Management: Provide educational resources as they relate to behavior health conditions related to substance use disorder
  • Documentation and Reporting: Maintain accurate and detailed records of assessments, diagnoses, treatment plans, and progress notes in compliance with legal and ethical standards
  • Individual and Group Counseling and Support: Provide counseling, guidance, and support to clients and their families, assisting them in understanding addiction, coping strategies, and available resources
  • Referrals and Collaboration: Coordinate with healthcare providers, social workers, and other professionals to facilitate referrals for additional services like medical care, psychiatric evaluation, or community support
