Summary

Join GoFundMe as a Communications Associate and generate earned media to support fundraiser organizers and special projects. You will build relationships with reporters, monitor news events, and develop creative media tactics. This role involves collaborating with cross-functional teams and working directly with GoFundMe customers to share their stories. You will also serve as a spokesperson when needed and manage monthly reporting. This exciting opportunity allows you to grow in the communications field and make a real impact on GoFundMe users.

Requirements

  • BA/BS in Journalism, English or Communications or equivalent experience
  • 3-5 years of experience in a newsroom or comms environment, securing media coverage
  • Strong, clear written and verbal communicator, with the ability to tailor messages for different audiences and demonstrated creative in maximizing storytelling opportunities
  • Solid understanding of the media and socio-political landscape
  • Excellent project management skills with the ability to lead and implement multiple time-sensitive projects
  • A dependable teammate, who works well with internal cross-functional and external collaborators, and with the ability to operate under own direction and demonstrate high productivity

Responsibilities

  • Pitch and generate stories about fundraisers and fundraising trends to local and regional reporters
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with reporters in a designated region of the U.S. and consistently generate positive press coverage for our customers and brand
  • Monitor and respond to news events in real-time by ensuring local media is aware of GoFundMe fundraisers and our world-class Trust & Safety protections
  • Develop/deploy creative earned media tactics to generate news coverage that best serve our customers, overall business goals, and the newscycle
  • Expand amplification efforts to make our customers more successful, both internally through cross-functional collaboration across our Global Go To Market team, and externally through identifying new types of media channels
  • Work with GoFundMe customers to help tell their stories to a broad audience
  • Serve as an official on-the-record spokesperson, when needed, and write clear messaging for reactive reporter statements about activity on our platform, company processes, and GoFundMe’s mission
  • Help identify and build relationships with local community organizations, relevant stakeholders, and people of influence in the region
  • Manage monthly reporting and consistently deliver on outlined team metrics
