Summary

Join DEPT® as a Creative Technologist and own the front-end development of interactive projects. Work in-house or remotely with a team of creatives, strategists, and project managers on diverse projects, including e-commerce experiences, websites, and installations. You will collaborate with various teams, manage tasks, and solve problems within a large-scale codebase. This role requires strong programming and design skills, proficiency in TypeScript, HTML, CSS, and relevant frameworks, and experience with animations and testing. Requirements

  • Possesses a strong foundation in programming and development
  • Has a keen eye for design, marketing, aesthetics and user experience
  • Proficiency with TypeScript, HTML, CSS, and relevant frameworks/libraries (e.g., React, Linaria/CSS-in-JS)
  • Expertise in creating performant, cross-browser compatible CSS animations
  • Working knowledge of Scroll-Driven Animations
  • Familiarity with Canvas (which you’ll learn from docs at Airbnb), particularly with applying custom CSS to meet specific design needs
  • Understanding of performance best practices, including minimizing load times, optimizing images, reducing JavaScript bundles, and leveraging caching strategies
  • Basic familiarity with Jest for unit and integration testing to ensure stability and reliability in the codebase
  • Ability to interpret and write simple tests, debug failing tests, and understand how tests integrate with the build process
  • Experience in following test requirements as part of the development workflow

Responsibilities

  • Work closely with a small developer team on specific project components
  • Coordinate with other development teams to understand and integrate shared resources or site-wide elements
  • Communicate and collaborate with numerous other teams (design, localization, accessibility, etc)
  • Daily management of tasks, including breaking down complex tickets and handling overlapping responsibilities
  • Adjust quickly to changing requirements or new information from various teams
  • Problem-solving skills for debugging issues within the large-scale codebase and across different teams’ workflows
  • Coordination with the Canvas team to understand platform limitations and possibilities, and close collaboration with the content management team
  • Version control and working with smaller, module-specific repositories for CSS updates, managed separately from the main codebase
  • Version control and working within a monorepo setup
  • This role involves working closely with Design partners to quickly brainstorm, prototype, develop, and deploy innovative animated experiences
  • Passion for creative iteration, partnership and a sensitivity for achieving pixel perfect, elegant design
  • Translate prototypes to high quality, scalable, and maintainable production code through iterative development
