Summary
Join Gearset, a product-driven company, as a DevOps Team Lead and lead a team built on trust, teamwork, and tight feedback loops. You will be responsible for shaping the direction of DevOps, developing and mentoring a high-performing team, working in a pragmatic environment, tackling complex scaling challenges, and collaborating across the company to drive operational excellence. You will also drive the velocity of the team, support their autonomy, proactively identify and mitigate risks, ensure smooth cross-functional collaboration, and work alongside the team to operate and evolve infrastructure and development practices.
Requirements
- Have been in a DevOps Team Lead, or equivalent position, for a couple of years or more with a proven track record of driving focus, alignment and execution in a fast-moving environment
- A strong ability to understand the needs of users, work with them to map out additional requirements around security, compliance and scalability and prioritise technical work that will efficiently address those needs
- Have in-depth practical experience working with AWS and Kubernetes (in particular, VPC networking and security, IAM, EC2, Postgres RDS, S3, SQS, SNS, ECR and EKS)
- Have hands-on experience running production-level SaaS applications at scale, performing change management without disruption to users and responding to incidents that impact the availability of the service for users
Responsibilities
- Lead and shape the direction of DevOps at Gearset, influencing infrastructure decisions and best practices at a rapidly scaling company and maintaining our ability to release our service multiple times a day
- Develop and mentor a high-performing DevOps team, fostering a culture of continuous learning, feedback and professional growth
- Work in a pragmatic, high-impact environment where we prioritise solving problems over rigid processes, making iterative improvements and shipping meaningful changes quickly
- Tackle complex scaling challenges in a globally distributed, multi-tenant SaaS environment built on Kubernetes and AWS
- Collaborate across the company to drive operational excellence, building a deep understanding of how Gearset works and using that to support engineers, designers, marketers and sales teams in delivering value to our customers
- Drive the velocity of the team through our core values, prioritising impactful work, breaking it down into small slices and helping the team deliver valuable improvements week on week
- Support the teamβs autonomy through clear and open communication, fostering an environment where team members have the freedom to make decisions, take ownership of their work and solve problems independently while still aligning with organisational goals
- Proactively identify and mitigate risks related to security, scalability and operational efficiency before they impact users
- Ensure smooth cross-functional collaboration, making DevOps a key enabler of growth across the company
- Work alongside the team to operate and evolve our infrastructure and development practices, bringing your experience and rigour to bear in maintaining our high standards
Preferred Qualifications
- Hands-on experience automating the management of infrastructure using Terraform
- Strong knowledge of CI/CD pipeline configuration and operation
- Familiarity with .NET/C# applications and development environments
- Experience implementing observability solutions and using them to gain insights into application and infrastructure performance
