Summary
Join Veolia North America as a Business Development Manager to identify, develop, and execute long-term municipal contracts. You will lead the sales process, research customers, interpret requirements, and prepare sales presentations. This role requires managing proposals, negotiations, and internal approvals. You will maintain a business development database, prepare reports, and stay updated on industry trends. The position is remote within a specific region and requires up to 50% travel. Requirements
- Business development experience selling to municipalities and government organizations
- At least ten years of progressive sales experience in a related field with a proven track record in complex business transactions, pricing, project finance, financial models, and spreadsheets; demonstrated effective technical and proposal writing
- Ability to review, comprehend, and negotiate complex legal contracts (with attorney support)
- Knowledge of potential sales of operations, maintenance, consulting, and professional services
- Knowledge of Veolia's business, services, capabilities, and ability to develop inter-relationships with other Veolia Group divisions
- Knowledge of potential customers in target markets, including networks and relationships with customers, trade organizations, engineering/construction firms, equipment vendors, and financiers
- Knowledge of competitors, their strategies, strengths, and weaknesses
- Knowledge of assigned markets, prices, legislation, suppliers, influences, and contract structures
- Understanding of internal and external economic factors affecting assignment areas
- Effective project planning and organizational skills; effective use of time and resources to meet deadlines
- Ability to prepare accurate, timely, effective, complete, and easily understood written communications, reports, and presentations
- High level of interpersonal, verbal, persuasion, presentation, and relationship-building skills
- Ability to modify communication and presentation style to relate to various people and personalities
- Proficiency in word processing, spreadsheet, and presentation software
- Commitment to compliance with applicable laws, regulations, company Code of Conduct, and policies
- Ability to work in a team environment and willingness to assume additional responsibilities
- Valid driver's license with a safe driving record (if operating company vehicles)
- Completion of Employee Orientation, Standard Operating Procedures, Safety, OSHA & Quality Training
Responsibilities
- Lead the sales process by seeking business opportunities through interviewing customers, suppliers, and colleagues
- Research customers and partners to identify decision-makers, procurement processes, and past interactions with Veolia
- Interpret customer requirements and determine suitable products
- Recommend new products and applications for emerging market developments; work with Veolia Engineering and Operations to adapt existing products
- Prepare and deliver sales presentations focusing on customer value; coordinate visits from Veolia staff and management
- Arrange customer visits to Veolia facilities and demonstrations
- Work with customer engineering/technical staff to clarify and communicate needs and expectations
- Manage internal technical audit and internal approvals for projects (if applicable)
- Manage and participate in proposal preparation, pricing, and presentations; conduct proposal meetings, assign tasks, set deadlines, track progress, and ensure customer requirements and deadlines are met
- Automate processes and ensure historical data is captured for future proposals
- Lead negotiations with customers, including agreement preparation and structuring financing solutions; maintain liaison with other Veolia team members
- Maintain the business development database
- Prepare monthly reports and internal memos to communicate opportunities, address issues, and assist with forecasting
- Stay informed on new products, specifications, industry trends, and competitor analysis; communicate new information to colleagues; attend industry events
- Communicate potential opportunities to other Veolia locations and business units
Preferred Qualifications
Bachelorβs degree in Engineering, business, or other technical disciplines
