Summary
Join Apex Clean Energy as their Director of Federal Affairs and spearhead policy and regulatory advocacy at the federal level. This role requires a seasoned professional with 8+ years of experience in government relations or public policy, including direct Capitol Hill or federal agency experience focusing on federal energy policy. You will identify and implement strategic actions supporting Apex projects, represent Apex at industry meetings and federal venues, and build relationships with federal agencies and Congressional offices. Leadership of Apex Clean Energy’s Political Action Committee is also expected. The position offers a remote work environment, ideally located near Washington, D.C., with occasional travel to Charlottesville, VA. Requirements
- Bachelor’s or advanced degree in Political Science, Public Administration, Law, or a related field preferred
- Minimum of 8+ years of experience in federal government relations, public policy, or a related field
- Strong knowledge of the federal legislative and regulatory processes
- Excellent analytical, strategic planning, and communication (verbal + written) skills
- Proven ability to build and maintain relationships with federal policymakers and stakeholders
- Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced, remote, environment
- Strong organizational and project management abilities
- Strong negotiation and advocacy skills
- Willing to work out of the Washington D.C area with occasional travel to our headquarters in Charlottesville, VA
Responsibilities
- Identify, shape, and implement strategic actions that support Apex projects and broad company objectives, with a focus on policy relating to clean energy taxation, federal permitting, and technology procurement needs
- Represent Apex Clean Energy at industry trade association meetings, U.S. Congress, and within other federal venues
- Develop meaningful relationships with relevant federal agencies, including the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission, the Department of Interior, and the Department of Energy, as well as with key Congressional offices, focusing on those offices with Apex projects in their district
- Play a leadership role with Apex Clean Energy’s Political Action Committee through both internal fundraising efforts, implementing strategic giving plans, and attending PAC related meetings and events
- Working with the Vice President of Government Affairs, provide updates and strategic guidance to the Apex senior leadership team on policy and regulatory developments at the federal level
