Remote Director of Engineering

Summary

Join JumpCloud's growing Engineering team as the Director of Engineering! You will build and lead new teams within our SaaS group, playing a key role in the success and development of our engineering teams and managers. This leadership position requires guiding engineering teams, managers, and architects, influencing engineering practices and product strategy. You will help build features, drive architecture, define best practices, and ensure product quality. Success requires experience leading organizations delivering complex, distributed systems in a public cloud, proven technical ability, and excellent people management skills. Requirements

• 10+ years of experience leading engineering managers and architects developing SaaS products in a public cloud (AWS, GCP, or Azure)
• 10+ years of experience as a software engineer
• Hands-on experience with Agile teams (Scrum)
• Experience managing cross-functional teams (Dev and Quality engineers)
• Proven ability to lead in a fast-moving, team-oriented, collaborative environment
• Experience partnering with Product Management, Security, Operations, and User Experience leaders
• Track record of continuous improvement through innovation, delivery, process development, and quality
• Experience leading and growing geographically diverse engineering teams in a remote-first environment
• BS degree in Software Engineering, Computer Science, or equivalent. Strong technical foundation in software engineering and design principles

Responsibilities

• Provide engineering leadership for 1-2 architects and 2-5 engineering managers who collectively lead 4-8 agile teams
• Inspire, hire, onboard, and mentor a diverse remote team of high-potential members
• Demonstrate excellent communication skills, effectively conveying complex issues and options to senior leadership and the executive team
• Partner with peers and other teams to build, lead, and inspire a world-class engineering organization
• Grow and mentor the next generation of architects, engineering managers, and senior managers
• Drive reuse of development work, platforming, and consistent technical and architectural direction across projects
• Provide tactical project leadership and oversight of team activities
• Strategically define the future of your organization, identifying industry trends to accelerate team performance and increase organizational capability

Preferred Qualifications

• Background in Identity and Access Management (IAM)
• Experience with authentication and authorization protocols (OAuth, OpenID Connect, RADIUS, SAML, WebAuthN)
• Experience with other Directory services (LDAP, Active Directory, Google Workspace) and protocols (SCIM)
