Summary

Join Shippo, the shipping layer of the internet, as the Director of Marketing, API, leading the strategy and execution of API go-to-market efforts. This director-level role focuses on driving API product adoption and revenue, primarily targeting commercial buyers (operations and logistics leaders) and secondarily supporting developer enablement. You will lead a small team, collaborating with Product, Sales, and Partnerships to shape positioning, guide launches, and build scalable programs. Responsibilities include strategic direction, team leadership, cross-functional alignment, and overseeing campaign creation and new feature launches. You will also drive qualified pipeline growth, equip sales teams with necessary materials, and evaluate and launch a developer marketing program. Finally, you will own and report on key API marketing performance metrics.

Requirements

  • 10+ years of experience in technology marketing, of which 3+ years leading marketing teams across all functions from demand generation to product marketing
  • Experience marketing to operations, logistics, or fulfillment leaders
  • Demonstrated success leading and scaling high-performing marketing teams
  • Strong understanding of API go-to-market strategies (technical and commercial)
  • Able to navigate across different segments from developers to enterprise buyers
  • Clear communicator, strong manager, and practical decision-maker

Responsibilities

  • Define and evolve Shippoโ€™s API marketing strategy to align with business objectives
  • Lead the evolution of our positioning and messaging for API offerings
  • Use market trends, customer insights, and product data to influence go-to-market and product direction
  • Lead, coach, and grow a high-performing team covering API product marketing, demand generation, developer marketing, lifecycle, and content
  • Set team priorities, manage workload allocation, and ensure accountability to goals
  • Foster strong cross-functional collaboration with Product, Sales, and Account Management
  • Guide the creation of campaigns, messaging frameworks, and compelling customer narratives
  • Oversee the launch and commercialization of new features to new and existing customers
  • Drive qualified pipeline growth for the API product line
  • Ensure Sales and Account Management teams are equipped with the right materials (e.g., decks, ROI calculators, one-pagers)
  • Evaluate and launch a developer marketing program in collaboration with Engineering and Product
  • Identify and prioritize developer experience gaps and ensure resolution by the appropriate teams
  • Own and report on top-level metrics for API marketing performance, including awareness, pipeline impact, and adoption milestones
  • Guide the teamโ€™s use of analytics, customer feedback, and experimentation to continuously refine marketing programs

Preferred Qualifications

Experience working in a hybrid (self-service and direct sales) business model is a plus
