Summary

The job is for an Engineering Manager to lead a team in designing and implementing snapd features and its integration with the Snap Store, underpinning Ubuntu Core, Desktop, and Server experience on various CPU architectures. The role involves hiring, coaching, mentoring, setting expectations, planning, delivering technical solutions, advocating for agile software development practices, growing a healthy engineering culture, and working with other leaders in the organization.

Requirements

  • Be knowledgeable and passionate about software development
  • Have experience in leading, managing, coaching, and mentoring software developers
  • Be comfortable planning and executing to deliver timely, high quality software
  • Have solid experience working in an agile development environment
  • Have a Bachelor’s or equivalent in Computer Science, STEM or similar degree
  • Have experience with embedded software
  • Have experience with Golang, C/C++, and Shell
  • Have a solid understanding of Linux and a modern GNU/Linux distribution, Debian or Ubuntu preferred

Responsibilities

  • Build and lead a distributed team of engineers through hiring, coaching, mentoring, feedback, and hands-on career development
  • Demonstrate sound engineering principles by directly contributing toward your team’s goals
  • Support timely delivery of technical solutions to address business needs
  • Effectively set and manage expectations with other engineering teams, senior management, and external stakeholders
  • Advocate and advance modern, agile software development practices and help develop and evangelize great engineering and organizational practices
  • Grow a healthy, collaborative engineering culture in line with the company values
  • Be an active part of the leadership team and collaborate with other leaders in the organization
