Engineering Manager

Join us in our mission to make Discord's users safer by creating scalable and proactive systems to limit bad actors across the platform. We are looking for a technical, metrics-driven and hands-on Engineering manager to lead this team.

Requirements

• 5+ years experience building scalable backend or real-time data systems
• 2+ years experience as an Engineering Manager
• Experience operating and deploying large-scale distributed systems, including Kubernetes experience
• Strong communication skills and the ability to work well cross-functionally
• Ability to work with others to create pragmatic solutions — and then evolve and generalize them
• Confidence to dive deep into the technical details and challenge designs or solutions

Responsibilities

• Supporting a team of talented, 8-10 Engineers including a Staff Engineer
• Owning our in-house, real-time abuse detection platform written in Python and Rust
• Working with Product, Data Science, and ML to develop reusable services or architectures
• Building out the signals, datasets, and databases to support our informational needs
• Expanding and deploying internal APIs to combat abusive content
• Maintain operations for our infrastructure on Kubernetes
• Move quickly to respond to the moving target of abuse on Discord

$223,000 to $245,500 + equity + benefits
